Identifying steel I bought years ago.

I already searched through all my emails and can't find where I ordered this steel from or what kind it is.. How can I figure out what type of steel I am working with if it's been laying around for a few years? If I get it ready for HT and send it to someone is there any way they can tell what it is? The only marking on it was a "white letter -C-". Neither end had color on it, had a fairly clean milled surface, not rough or deeply pitted. Y any means. No rust on it. Fairly easy to drill through and grind. Any ideas? I ordered it at least 3-4 years ago. It was .125 stock.

Peaters Heat treat has a PMI gun and can zap your blade with it and tell you what steel it is.

Thank you! So can I get it ground, sander and ready for HT before sending it out? Sounds like I can but I want to make sure before I waste my time finishing it.

My local scrap metal dealer has a PMI gun. If you have a scrap metal dealer close to you call him and ask if he has one of those guns and see if he'll scan your metal.
