Does anyone know what model this is? It definitely looks like it's been modified, but not sure if the Busse shop did it or not? It's on fleabay and just was curious :)
Thanks and be safe!

Not modified (I have one or two) but I'm not sure of the name. It could have been the first SAR.

Thank you for the quick responses. I've never seen the 5 before and didn't know they had the hole there.

This is my user and it is modified. I wasn't a fan of the hole there so I had PorkDucci put a pin in it and he reshaped the slabs. It is an awesome Oyster shucker!!!:cool:

So for ya'll how does it compare (handle wise) to the RMD or some other flava? Do you reach for it over other models (besides Oyster shucking ;))?

Honestly, I like the RMD far more.
I stripped my SAR 5, and had a helluva time getting rid of all the black underneath the paint. Ended up talking about my problems on here, and someone offered to blast it away for me. I remember who, and appreciate it; they did a GREAT job, but I don't want to say their name since they offered the service to me. They can chime in if they want.

It is INFI. The hole doesn't bother me at all. The reason I prefer the RMD is the handle is much better, for me. The SAR 5 handle is too thick, and too rounded. It is one of those things where you have to THINK about where the sharpened edge is, instead of like most knives, where the handle/scales drive you to have the edge oriented correctly. I have often thought of sanding down the scales, smoothing them, and getting them to the point they orient the edge properly. I just haven't taken the time yet.

All that being said, IMO, the shape of the blade itself, and the fact there isn't really a finger guard or choil, makes the blade one of the handiest I've seen (and used... the little bit that I have so far).

The other thing is it isn't exactly the easiest to find a sheath for. I'm sure there are a couple of kydex benders that could make a good sheath for it. The SpecOps sheath won't work. The way the handle is shaped, the strap won't hold it in the sheath. IMO, the best option for sheath is a leather sheath that is long enough that it goes up over at least part of the handle. I now have mine in the Busse leather sheath that was offered with the FHFG RMD. Works great!

I agree with what Dogboye said but for the RMD part because I don't have an RMD to compare to. The slabs on the user were significantly shaped. I do use this knife a lot when I need a slightly bigger knife than my MS user or AD.

Here is my modified user next to a stock knife.

jacked the shadows up in this one so you can see the slab shape

Oh wow! I see what ya'll are talking about with the handles as they are pretty big. What size hands do you have? I have xl and quite a bit of the Busse and kin knives I have bought don't quite fit right. I do enjoy all the different flavas they do have though. I am like a kid at Christmas every time I get one of their knives in :)

I wear a med glove size from most brands.

From a lifetime of playing golf I'm picky about grip size and shapes on things I use. If you were to shape them and then felt they were too small you could have someone pop the shaped slabs off and put some material under the slabs. Of course you'd just do this with the users you love!

PS I better get to the PO before I piss someone off LOL

I like what you, or someone, did to your SAR 5, TonyG. I'll probably do similar, at least for the scales, once this ChiCom virus pandemic is over. My scales are G10, and I don't have a proper respirator right now to work on them. And they're impossible to find right now.

I remember Jerry saying that the SAR 5 just didn't look like a Busse, and he sold them at a good price.
Think he joked once about cancelling their warranty if we trash talked 'em on the forum before he dropped 'em for sale lol :D
But the price was no joke, a real bargain.:thumbsup:
