  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

idiosyncrasies

For day hikes I am very terrible about deciding where to go. It sometimes takes me a couple hours just to figure out which place I want to go to!

This thread is very therapeutic! I don't feel like such a freak after reading thru these posts.
So many off the beaten path places locally that I want to explore further than I have already but I have a hard time deciding!

Joezilla I'm there with you ... I do most of my work with a chopper and folder.. But i always keep a scandi in my bag for dedicated use.

Crossada,

Which did you forget / The wife, or the dog ? :D
Haha Find me a girl interested in camping first to forget:D

I always bring these gloves made by Blackhawk that i forgot that trip. I know it sounds stupid to go back for that but for the people in Iowa they know how multiflora rose has taken over everything. I just went hiking last weekend and ripped a pair of pants out at the knee.

Those thorny vines can ruin a weekend quick getting caught on everything. I always try and clear an area then burn the vines. What can i say, my camping involves yard work;)

Thorns suck. Down in Arizona, where we go packing, there is a lot of cat's claw. Stuff will suck you in quick and rip ya apart trying to get out... Ya need gloves and a machete to deal with it... I get ya on wanting the gloves.

I always overthink / overpack. I have spent the last 6 months breaking my kits down and really downsizing. I believe in redundancy, but I need mobility more than the kitchen sink.

Any time I am in the woods I have a fixed blade and either a folder or multitool.

OCD isn't as bad as CDO, which is like OCD except the letters are in alphabetical order - AS THEY SHOULD BE!!!!!

I tend to overpack certain items, I have trouble narrowing down to 6 or less flashlights and have been known to take 10 or so for 2 nights. I also take way more knives than I need, taking maybe 8 knives and using only 2 or 3 of them. If I was hiking some distance I might try to cut down my gear a bit, but would probably still end up with at least 4 knives & 4 flashlights. Probably 4 lighters as well - they are small & light and a lot less work than a friction fire.
