This order is one I'd love to keep for myself -- I'm pleased how it turned out. It has a 7 1/2 hollow-ground blade of 1/4 W-2 and is 12 1/2 inches overall. The hamon turned out very different for me and I think I like it. :D Thanks for giving her a look.

Thats probably the best East meets West I have ever seen. Very 'tidy' I can't think of a better word, but oft times the Japanese esque wrap can seem fussy. This one maintains the beauty but dosent look like a Prima Donna.

Looks awsome. Did you clay coat the blade during ht? It did turn out nice.

Initially I misread the subject, thinking you made one you were going to keep for yourself. I have to admit, I was disappointed for you when my brain clicked through and I realized what you'd really said. I'd want to keep that one too; it's virtually perfect. Temper's comment about East meets West is right on I think.

One thing that struck me (aside from the 1/4" stock!) is the way the plunge goes behind the edge. I always like that and I'm always reluctant for some reason to do it. I don't know why because it's a great look and really works on this knife.

Thanks for sharing Michael, I always look forward to your posts.

Thanks a lot -- it really means a lot coming from you all. :)

It was clay-coated but the interesting thing is that it appears to have a bit of utsuri, but the "straight" part is the actual transition line. The loops are what I assume to be ashi (I think, I'm not an expert by any means  ).

Just asked my wife, Utsuri means 'How something appears' if you guys would like any translations of Japanese or character reading (Kanji) doing, don't hesitate to ask.

Very , very nice Michael. You've gotten quite good at manipulating the hamon. Fun to see what you end up with clay tempering. Deb and I act like little kids when they go in the etch.

Did you profile the plunge behind the edge or lpunge that far back from the edge heel?

Ita a great knife! The hamon really stands out but the whole package is very nice.

Vary nice. Nice profile. Nice hamon. Nice wrap. I'd want to keep that one too..

Thanks again fellows --

Brian, I'm not quite sure what you're asking. I took a poor pic of the plunge. it's set up in the vise as the epoxy is drying so I couldn't get any underneath ones. Maybe that will answer your question.

I also took a pic of the menuki. You'll see why I called it the "koi." :D

Nicely done Michael, I'm going to have to come visiting one of these days so you can teach me those wrapped handles.

Keep it Michael !! ... This knife stuff is dangerous. As I drove home yesterday I started to look at some interesting cloud formations and suddenly there was a fine example of hamon. I said oh ! that's hamon ! If I had a camera I would have posted the photo.

Did you finish the profile...then plunge cut behind the edge area?

anyways...I like it however you did it ;)
