If I had $20,000 to blow...

This is at least the fifth time that collection has been listed, had an opening bid of $14,000 the first time, and $15,000 three or more times. Needless to say, never drew a single bid. Considering the general consensus was that, while there are a handful of very desirable pieces in it, it was overpriced at $14K and moreso at $15K, I don't see how raising the price another five grand is going to make it any more attractive.

If I had $20k to "blow" on knives I'd get:
1. Robert Loveless (true classics/safe bet)
2. Yoshindo Yoshihara (true master works/Museum pieces)
3. Phill Hartsfield (cause I love them)

That is the worst deal ever. All those spydercos :barf: look the same to me with a couple of exceptions. That would be the last thing id buy if i had 20 grand to blow.

Nothing against Spyderco, but why would anyone blow $20,000 for somebody else's collection like that?

I'd rather buy a Sebenza and/or one of thoses Damascus steel Benchmade 940's.

What about the rest?? I'd put $15 grand away and spend the rest on a trip to the Bahamas.

I'd get a badass katana. Or maybe pay off my credit cards and buy a new car. Decisions decisions. *sigh*

I'd go pick up some customs. ;)

Exactly. I'd buy a couple of nice fixed blades and a folder or two, and take the other $18,000.00 and put it down on a vehicle.

The guy has a nice collection, but it's not worth $20,000.00...maybe $5,000.00 tops.

I really like Spyderco knives, but not THAT much.

How about a Hitori Hanzo? :D

Actually, instead I'd finish my education, buy some equipment, and make my own knives.

I'd be putting it aside for a trip to the USA to visit "Blade 2006".
Might do it anyway on the Visa Card next year.

Y'know, if I had the $20,000 to spend, I'd invest it in some good knife-making equipment and pay off some of my student loans. You know, make my money work FOR me, not against me! :)

If it was fun money and I was given a mandate to spend on nothing of immediate importance :D then I'd get a new vehicle. I'd probably go with a Jeep Cherokee that's still in good condition, then I'd modify it 'til it suited my desires. After that, I'd fill out my backpacking gear list and see what else I could play with.

Hmmm... sadly, my first thoughts weren't, "How can I help someone out with this dough?"... Odds are, I'd find some people who really needed some help. That is also a fun way to "spend" money. And it's always a blast to see how I'm repayed after doing someone a good turn :)

The only thing more fun than watching this guy relist the set at higher prices each time is wating to see the deep pocket 'genius' who'll buy it.

With 20K, I'd do the boring stuff of pay bills, invest, save a bit. But that's only after I take a few grand and rape the shelves at New Graham ;)
