"If I had an Armani suit, I'd where it everywhere"... OR show me your EDC customs

I never carry my one custom slip joint. That's why I don't buy any more.
When I got my first more expensive knife I was pretty careful using it. And I cared quite a bit about it so that it doesnt' get lost or anything. After I got my second more expensive knife, i got a lot more laid-back about it - because even if it got damaged or lost, I'd have another one sitting on a drawer... And I'm still careful with all my knives and I haven't lost or destroyed any (yet?), but I don't really worry about them.
And I dont have highly expensive customs (only one ''custom'' fixed blade that ended up being the knife for shaving) but some handmade knives where it worked pretty much like with my first more expensive knives.

I don't have an Armani suit, and I don't know if I will ever have one, but if I will, I would use it for any situation I'd choose to dress elegant and wear a suit ("everywhere" is a bit too wide a range for such clothes...)
I don't own any custom made knife (apart from a couple Sardinian traditionals which, in my opinion, are way too bulky for pocket carry, so they stay home). But if I had one (and maybe I will get one in the next few months) I would surely carry it. Maybe I would feel worried about it the first day, or the first cut, but time would surely convince me that it was made to be carried and used...and that's what I will buy it for.

I'd carry one if I had it. However, I prefer to just collect production knives. Customs are nice but just not my cup of tea at the moment.

I have this one in my pocket right now. It's a Tony Bose custom (not Case), although the flash has washed out the maker's stamp on the blade in the pics. :( And I have carried it nearly every day that I have owned it.

Similarly, I have also carried old, valuable production knives that are very difficult to find if you can find one at all, and which have come to me in unused or nearly unused condition. I sort of view unused knives like bird-dogs that have been previously owned by someone more interested in watching tv than getting out and hunting, thereby relegating the dog to a very sedentary life. I feel like getting such knives and using them is like saying to the dog, "C'mon ole boy, let's see if we can't go and rustle up some pheasants. Let's do what you were meant to do."

I also routinely carry this Rick Menefee with mammoth ivory.

Very great looking custome, gentlemen!

I don´t own any custom knife and propably never will. They look great, really. Thanks for showing off these beauties!

Kind regards
Andi

Chris, that Menefee mammoth is one of the best looking slipjoints I've ever seen-- just off the charts!

I have a custom that I carry & use, but I generally don't bring it to work (where it may fall into the drink & be lost). It's KHampton swayback, and it shows some "love marks" on the bolsters. But it's a tool, made to be used!

Agreed! What is it Chris a Eureka Jack?

Nathan

Thanks, guys! And you are spot on, Nathan. Picked it up from a purveyor for a song and a dance. :) Rick said to use it, use it a lot, and if I somehow use up the knife in my lifetime while he can still make knives, he'd make me another one! While very gracious, my sense is that he knows that this knife will last well beyond my lifetime. That's ok though; I wouldn't have it any other way.

A lot of very nice knives posted up! Thank you for the sharing the photos! ...I still don't own an Armani suit and I'm not sure that I want one. I don't own a Bose yet either but I do know that I want one!

Although I won't be digging weeds out from the cracks in the sidewalk with my customs, I think I'm getting close to working up the courage to carry them for regular stuff.

I've been using the bottom knife in my picture to cut vinyl composite tile today. If I had an Armani suit, it would probably have grease stains on it, but I don't own a suit at all.

I only have two custom slipjoints, one a prototype knife that has a deep gouge where the half moon nail nick should be, and the other an early Ray Laconico Nessmuk slipjoint. Both have micarta scales, and are not exactly traditional looking. However, I had a problem carrying my Case Bose knives and somewhat collectible vintage knives. I almost cashed in my ticket/bought the farm/took the final trip west two weeks ago. I got more important things to worry about than whether or not I scuff a nice knife. So, my customs and semi customs are scuffed and ready to rock and roll. It's all just pretty steel and handle material. I've always gotten more fun out of carrying them.

I love using my nicest knives, it gives them purpose and makes them feel fulfilled!:D

This is a pic of my 5 most used custom folders. The 2 slipjoints are from Lloyd and txwoodchip on here. Mammoth ivory and briar root handles, 52100 & ATS34 steel. Neither one complains when I use them, so I figure it's not a bad thing!

(the non traditionals are an Elishewitz NONTRADITIONAL- Damascus/ti/g10/micarta/carbon fiber; and 2 Alan Davis -damascus, stag or amboyna- in case anybody wanted to ask. All very capable matter separators!

Seeing the Lloyds on here reminded me of my own, which I have carried a couple times. This one is in 52100 steel.

Jake, I carry my Shadow patterns more. But I do carry a few with bone and one with stag. But there's a few I
want carry... for different reasons. But once you EDC a custom, It's hard to carry anything else! That's for sure my friend.;)

Jason

Like Jason, I like to carry Shadow patterns.
Here is one I used to carry a lot (I hope Jason still does:D)

I like your outlook.
(Read your other thread... Glad you're ok.)

Here's my Tim Wright that gets the most belt time. Carbon blade that I've neglected. Not too big, thin, sharp as a...knife... I own at least a dozen of his, rotate maybe three... I have several custom kitchen knives that also get used regularly.
