If knives were cars...

If you were to compare knives to cars how would you do it and what knives would you compare to what cars? What knife companies to what car companies?

Here's how I see it:

Kershaw-Toyota
Zt-lexus
Sebenza-well, it already says Benz. :)
Spyderco-Jeep
Benchmade-Audi

My dragonflies are like the quick little dirt bikes, my leeks are crotch rockets. Large fixed blades are like trucks.[emoji2]

Man, this is going to go all over the place, mostly because we all have different perspectives on what different brands of cars represent.

Spyderco -

...

Nah, I have nothing. The companies make such wide varieties of vehicles that I can't come up with a fitting analogy that wouldn't also apply to basically every other company. They all make similar cars for similar niches in similar price points (as far as I know, not being much of a car guy)

Are we talking reliability here?

My 93 Volvo 960 just turned 302,000 and I've really done nothing to it :)

Anything under $50 is like a regular car, up to about a $150 is like a luxury production car. Anything much more than that is a Ferrari, Astin Martin, Lamborgini, etc.

is it just me or do some people over think stuff? who cares if this thread has been done before... almost all have if you look hard enough and if you don't like the thread, do everyone else that wants to read it a favor and quietly leave without commenting.

and for the record i kindly disagree, spyderco isn't a jeep... it's a toyota. the car more people depend on than anything i've seen over the years.

My car is small and manual.
So is my Dragonfly.
Can you guess what I drive?

I also keep a Blur Glassbreaker in the center console, might be glad to have it someday.

Mtechs and the like are them little Hondas. Don't abuse them and they last a lifetime. So cheap they can't really lose value. Will keep going with broken and mudding parts but not luxury at all.
Spyderco would be not a car imo but more of a tractor. Some find them appealing to the eyes some find them not so but most will agree they are effective and last a while.
Benchmade is like Mercedes. Not really much low end priced stuff.
Kershaw would be dodge Chevy or ford. Low end models reliability is hit or miss more so a hit but mid and higher priced is nice while not being a Ferrari or sebenza that's too expensive for most people and is babied

Aww, dammit!

It's ok- I personally like your idea! FWIW: I also enjoyed that other thread. Maybe re-title this thread, & put your own original, creative spin on it.

Maybe something like: what kind of car/truck do you own/drive, & what specific make/model knife would you compare it to? People can post picture of their knives on or in their vehicles...kind of like, "Beer & Blades."

This is exactly what I was talking about!

Let me guess. Is your car a, Mini Cooper?

To me, the issue of overthinking things is comparing knives to cars or car manufacturers in the first place.

This seems like a winter thread and summer is just starting to get here. Don't wish away the nice weather so quickly!!

I would need a very large parking garage, full time mechanic and a pile of cash!!!:D John:thumbup:

...you forgot the private race track in the back yard. sort of a combo between, Laguna seca, Monaco and imola with your own winner circle full of gorgeous women and champagne. Now THAT is how to start a morning off right!

I don't think you should feel embarrassed at all...your thread doesn't have to be original to be relevant. Different folks are going to see it this time & reply with their own perspectives. I didn't see the other/earlier thread mentioned, & you obviously didn't either....a lot of us didn't. If BF members could only start original threads, then new ideas wouldn't emerge as new people look at the same topic....or even the same people look at the same topic at different points in their own lives.

I think this is a fun topic, and since I only have customs right now, I'd like to compare custom fixed blades to the 2016 Dodge Viper.

Love the clip on that thing...beautiful. Your work I assume?

Oh, I had to use a plastic knife to cut an apple at work today. Like driving a golf cart on the freeway!

When my knives get dull they are running low on gas. Gotta get to the gas station(stones). But supersteels get great milage!

Also, thanks for being so kind about the repeat everyone!

Now I just need to find a Bugatti to pose with my Rockstead's:D
