If you buy a new knife, Would the blade be 3" or 3 1/2"?

I am designing new knives for this year and would like your help.

I have Framelocks, Liner locks, slipjoints, lockbacks already on paper and get the feeling that more of you would be interested if the blades were shorter, rather than longer.

Would you rather have a 3" blade or one longer?

Thanks, A. G.

Personally, I find 3.5" to be my ideal blade length. Don't need much more, and don't like much less.

There's not really much you can do with 3,5" folder what you can't do with 3" folder. I generally like 3" or tad smaller due most countires and places laws and rules about blade length.

Depends what I'm after, I usually am fine with a 3" blade but sometimes I like to carry one that's a bit bigger. I like my slipjoints and liner locks smaller, and my framelocks and lockbacks bigger.

I agree. It really all boils down to state and local knife carry restrictions. In AZ we have a pretty leniant law, that allows pretty much everything and anything. I personally like 3.5"-4" blades.

Couldn't have said it better myself. :) I find my ideal length is about 3.5
It'll get through my apples and do a good job on lunch prep etc.

I'm a big fan of the 3.5" - 4" range personally. I honestly feel that if you were to make a 3" Acies, it would be a big seller. Whenever you release something with a 3.5" blade there is always going to be a group of folks who want the "mini" version.

I like liner locks and framelocks both to be bigger, slipjoints smaller.

As an urbanite, 3 inch is plenty.

If I'm in a setting where a 3.5 inch or greater folder is appropriate, then, in that setting, a fixed blade is probably appropriate too, and I would go that route.

Yeah, three inches or a hair under for legal reasons. I might be willing to ignore the law at times, but I don't want to risk trouble over a half inch.

With a belt clip - 3 1/2" is my preference
W/O a belt clip (pocket rider) - 3" is my sweetspot.
Traditional Slipjoints - 2 1/2" (you didn't ask but I thought I'd toss it in anyway)

Thanks AG

I usually carry a knife with a 3" blade. As was mentioned, if I want/need more length I use a fixed blade, despite having folders that would also work.

3" blade is less shocking to non knife people, and there really isn't much that you can't do with one in my experience.

I'll throw my hat in with the 3" crowd for many of the reasons already stated.

It is usually more about the design than the blade length for me. I do prefer 3.5" over 3", but I have several of both and enjoy all of them.

most of my knives I carry are a hair over 3". But I find 3.5" is really the sweet spot for stuff like food prep. That extra bit makes it much easier to get through bagels, fruits, etc...

I would like to see something in 4" similar to a Mora blade. I have found under 3" a little limiting as my SAK fits that bill but a fixed blade of 4" a tad conspicuous (all legal here).

Have always looked for the longer blades and a few times when I was hunting ended up using a folder that I had in my pocket because I left the bigger ones in the truck but it was usually at least a 3". The other side of that is I find myself carrying the shorter (under 3.5) more of the time and I have a number of each. Like the looks and feel of the longer blades but my practical side carrys the 3 inchers or smaller.
