If You Could Build Your Own SAK What Would It Contain?

The Spartan Lite comes oh so close, but omits the pen.

Large Blade
Can Opener with Screwdriver
Bottle Opener with Screwdriver
Awl
Phillips Screwdriver
LED Light
Pen
Toothpick
Tweezers

Clock with alarm would be nice, but not as necessary as the pen.

voyager lite? has the alarm clock, also scissors, hook, corkscrew

Hmmmm.... Why? Any particular problems with it? I've been drooling over your knife since you first posted that pic.
That type mod is third on my list of planned Sak mods.
To me a oht with scissors and corkscrew seems near ideal.
Is it a thickness issue?
Have you seen the cool Alox OHT Swissbianco is planning to sell?

Maybe 'less used' would have been a better wording than 'less useful'. There isn't really anything wrong with the knife, I just haven't ended up carrying it as much as I had thought that I would. I use the in-line phillips and small blade on my Explorer a lot at work, and as a result the Uber-GAK just hasn't been finding it's way into my back pocket that much. It I was out in the field a lot and had to travel light (i.e. away from the computers and equipment at work and didn't want to carry 3 - 5 knives around with me all the time) I suspect that I would carry it a lot more.

Next customs:
A Champion and a Waiter recombined together to make a Yoeman with wood and metal saws. I'll probably add stayglow scales to it and retire my EDC Explorer.

A hyrbid between a Hercules or a Outrider and a Hunter. Ideally it would have large locking blade, saw, scissors, large in-line phillips screwdriver, gutting blade and combo tool. I'm not sure if the scissors and large phillips can work on the same layer or not though.

Might take the leftover parts and make a 110mm locking Safari with just big blade, saw and corkscrew.

Someone, scibeer I think, was saying that the tools on the liner lock 111mm and the tools on a bar/pin lock 111mm are not easily compatible (something about them being a different Pin size and maybe in a different location). Which is a shame because a Hunter with scissors would be awesome (and OH and Stay Glow would be even cooler but at that point you are combining an Outrider, Hunter and Rescue Tool which is rather a lot of $ to be spending on one knife). I think the large Phillip's is probably too thick for the scissors layer, though you might be able to Mod it with a Phillip's on the spine (yes in addition to the Corkscrew, on the other side of the knife, regular scales wouldn't work at that point so you are looking at custom made scales.

Scibeer built both of those two knives for me and he said that the OHT-Outrider was a pain due to the different sized pins. Happily though the Hercules / Outrider / Hunter all use the sliding lock on the scale, not liner locks, so the parts should mix easily.

I suspect that you are right about the large Phillip's being too thick to work with the scissors, but it would be cool if it would work.

The 111mm GAKs have larger pins than the standard 111's so if you use those tools, you either have to enlarge the holes in the normal tools, or put up with a little slop using the GAK tools with smaller pins.

There was some other problem I had using liner lock vs slide lock on a mod that I don't remember now.

I did look for a way to get the big inline phillips on an OHT without the pliers, but never made it work.

By the way, the pin sizes aren't nearly as bad to deal with now. I found a reasonably priced source for solid carbide drill bits!

I bet the knife Gadgetman7 mentioned would be a liscence to print money. Actually I think they could make a killing off any locking blade on a traditional plastic or alox setup.

Wenger has produced a bunch of 84mm (3.5") SAKs in their EVO line with locking main blades and funny (but useful) "pressure lock" (my term) flathead screwdrivers.

The have had locking blades a long time, my cousin has one from befor they came out with the EVO style scales.

Clip, Spey, and Sheepsfoot blades.
Basically a Cattleman or Stockman.

Two sizes, one just shy of 3" closed and the other shy of 4" closed.
Handles like on the Solo, "grippy" and lanyard hole/ or bail.

Smaller one to meet any "legal" restrictions, and I am thinking of those outside of the USA as well, as these slip joints would not lock, instead have stout back springs.

Smaller one on person always.

Here you go Zuch and Warrior.

Thanks!

Its a modded Farmer that I swapped the saw for the scissors on.

My pm's don't work anymore here so email for details.

I would love a OH version of the Locksmith, with a high quality steel (S30V, VG-10, ZP-189, non-serrated) and Stayglow scales that have a built in LED and whistle. That would be perfect for my outdoor use.

Email sent to scibeer. That modded Farmer looks perfect!

I have that knife, and it is perfect. Scibeer does great work and his new alox mods are superb. He is an innovator of ideas and a real craftsman.

And yes, it feels as good as it looks,

Best Regards

Bob
