fixed blades with a S30V blade, phenolic handle, aluminum guard and handle...which would it be?

I know that's a big if but they could do it if we would buy it. I realize there was the signiture series but that wasn't the knife for me.

I want old style, new steel!!!!!

I'm going to think on this and answer tomorrow. :D

I've always preferred my Pathfinder to my Special.

A 105 in S30V? Dinkum stuff.

Hummm, Gordon you know you left us hanging . The 800 series was my kind of knife, mirror polish and all . Ok, you could leave off the signature ... Sheath and all was great .
To me the 1950's 110 heavy skinner has the most appeal, almost straight spine and belly slightly moved back with more point . A 4" skinning blade with a lanyard hole and stacked leather handle and the same flap over sheath would do it for me and it could be ground from several steels . Make sure it has the edge 2000 . DM :)

A 105.

Better yet, a 105 with Sambar Stag handle & S30V, but phenolic would be nice, too, perhaps a linen micarta.

That is a good idea.
110-125 mm will be good for the blade length.
Excuse me please. I mean from 4 and1/4 to 5 inches.

I would love to see a premium steel 100 series fixed blade heritage type set. I passed on the folder set. But, would have to get the whole fixed blade set:thumbup:.

I have had my eye on a 124, but can't seem to be able to afford one, when the auctions run out they are pretty expensive. They have a nice long, fat bellied blade i'd love to see in a specialized condition.

Mbj, The model you mention is a real desirable knife . Thats why most of us have one ---well really most of us have more than one . Best of luck on obtaining one . DM ;)

Okay, I guess I've thought about it long enough. I find the 100 series to be an absolute classic pattern. I'm good with the handle material being canvas micarta ie. JB's Heritage Set suggestion. Also, I'd like black linen micarta or stag (EXPENSIVE:eek:)...I just want the classic 100 pattern with four red micarta/maroon spacers. Of course, I agree with DM that the blade grinds should be Edge 2000.

Well I can't decided on just one. So I'll ask for my two favorites (happen to be my first two fixed blade Bucks) in a side by side sheath ala 117 Sportsman Set. My two S30V Bucks would be a 103 Skinner and 121 Guide. I think the edge holding qualities of S30V would be a big asset to type of fieldwork common to these knives.

I have a name for the set too..."The Outfitters Set"

This is a good idea, Gordon.

The military commissions large blade S30V knives, so I don't see where there would be a problem in a larger field knife, at least with the proper ht. (i.e. Bos ht).

How 'bout a Custom Shop option for a 100 series or two with handle options of Heritage or Heritage-like micarta, black phenolic, or Sambar Stag? Problem is that most collectors would want one of each.

But good idea! I like the old style. Grew up with it. :)

Gordon, I must agree with your two knife choices . I've always thought those two would make a great twin set . It gives you a good skinner and quartering/boning knife . This later one could also be used as a good bait/filleting knife on a fishing trip . The twin sheath is cool looking but I'd prefer each in a single sheath so I could just carry one when I wanted . JB's idea of the canvas micarta handle material I like and your spacer material . This gave a real nice touch to the Heritage series . Do a few fixed blades just like the Heritage series and I think we'd go for it . Good idea Gordon . DM

Hmmm.....I always keep a 119 in w/ my hunting gear. I'm kinda torn between a 121 & a 119...if its going to have a S30V blade and a phenolic handle. The more micarta spacers and more aluminum spacers.....the better I'd like it.

121, S30V, 'ELK' handle, BRASS hardware. Alligator sheath with brass snap that just has one BUCK stamped straight across the face......... Oh, and the custom shop made it with a hunk of elk I shot with my long bow and a wooden arrow and blade is Aurum etched with deep scenc of bugling elk...........if it had to be a user then just nice bull hide for sheath.........

(Might as well go all the way when your wishin', right)
