If you could have just one of the 100 series

I'm a big fan of the 119 but find that I'm using my 102's quite a bit more, so probably 102.

Scott H., I'm continually torn between a heavy field/ big game knife and a more bait/boning knife that could also be used for quartering . These two give a dilemma .
Do I carry a knife that I can really depend on for heavy use should the chips fall sour or go lighter with one that is good enough for the job . Prepare for the worst, hope for the best type thinking . A 121 is more suited for boning, trimming fat, filleting and such . It would easily cut quicker than a thick bladed knife . But the heavier knife you could mallet it thru wood, sharpen or cut tent stakes somethings of hard use in the woods . But a heavy skinner would come real close as well . DM

Deleted because it was off the thread track. Was about survival and knives. will save for another time. 300

My thoughts as well...and the reason I always have at least one 119 when hunting.

David and Scott,

The jist of my deleted thread was that is why I carry a light weight hatchet instead of a heavy knife. Just another way, another trade off in weight. 300

300, I agree . I opt to carry the Buck saw instead, it really cuts quick and doesn't miss your mark . The axe is heavy so I compromise . Emergency shelter building I've had to do for a night and appreciated the model 120 . Defended myself once against a rabid animal with the same knife . Such has its place and a 119 makes good sense .
But I still like the 121 for boning in camp or at home and quartering on a mountain side at times . DM

Was leaning the saw route, do you recommend the Buck saw over a small folding saw ?
300

Buck makes both and I've used both and like them . No problems . The Buck Saw has almost twice the blade length plus teeth on both sides of the blade . Fine on one side for bone and coarse on the other for wood . A real asset . Your call . DM

A 118 'Personal' in D2,grey or gold Buckcoat, one inch of serrations, Either Koa,Maple, or Walnut burl with a lanyard hole..

Heaven forebid the thought of only one, but for me, it would have to be a 118 with a stacked leather handle.

Jack

fixed blades with a S30V blade, phenolic handle, aluminum guard and handle...which would it be?

I'm going to stick to your original specs and say that for me it would be a 105.
I don't hunt and the 105 would give me a good fish cleaning knife and also one that would be big enough to carve up a roast or use to trim meat for the BBQ. I would like for it to come with a flap over sheath like the old days.

LOL, that's funny. Last night reading through all the comments, I thought to myself...a thread is kind of like a dozen drunks having a drag race in bumper cars. They start off fast and strait but pretty quick they're swerving about and smashing into each other, fussing, and not sure what they started off to try and do. :D

It's all good fellas!! We're just passing the time and maybe causing someone to tuck an idea away for future possibilities.

How 'bout a Custom Shop option for a 100 series or two with handle options of Heritage or Heritage-like micarta, black phenolic, or Sambar Stag? Problem is that most collectors would want one of each.
 Where's the problem? :D

The problem is the impact on the wallets of us not-so-wealthy collectors. :D

I agree, though, for me it would definitely be a 105.
