If you could only have one knife to be your everything, what would it be?

The long and the short of it, it didn't sell according to Kai. It's indeed a tank, and pretty heavy for its class, so some might find it over built to the point of being a burden. I let one slip through my fingers twice. I only lucked into mine because I was in Spark's shop about this time last year asking him if he had anything like the 180. He basically said, "Well what about the 180?" and plunked one he had from old stock on the counter. At this point it had been out of production for at least a year and a half. Didn't even ask the price, just threw my card at him :D I'm sure he gave me a good deal, but I didn't care. Had to have that knife.

Its one of my favorites for sure.
I don't blame you a bit!! Now there's a story with a happy ending!

a cpk ... for sure, just not sure which one ; )

the fk2 (field knife, shown below) or perhaps something larger like the light chopper in d3v?

In this day and age, survival knives should be of the utmost importance in everyone's mind.

What? I'm not sure I understand. Why do you think a survival knife is of utmost importance and something that everybody should be thinking of in this 'day and age'?

Beyond opening a box I don't actually have much need for a knife these days. Certainly not a a survival knife.

you know... some people watch too many zombie apocalypse genre tv... for them, the pandemic is just a short hop away

personally - outside of people going nuts on stockpiling toilet paper ... (and the whole anti-mask fiasco of anti-science) - it's been better than I would have expected

Well, I for one didn't assume the OP's question to be one of survival, because he already covered that, and seemed to be asking for your 'one knife solution' for any reasonably normal life. I spend a lot of time outside, and would likely take a an 8 inch bowie. All normal outdoor cutting tasks would be covered, still works decently in the kitchen. Not likely to be used for emergency surgeries, the spine can be a little thicker.

That is, IF the one knife scenario precludes any other cutting tool. Otherwise, my choices would be my regular EDC 4-1/2" S35VN fixed blade and a good tomahawk.

I believe my “what if...” knife would be my recently purchased L.T. Wright GNS. 4.5” drop point, saber ground blade in 01 steel with a natural Micarta handle. Spine on the knife has a pronounced edge for striking ferro rod.

In this day and age, survival knives should be of the utmost importance in everyone's mind. When I say "survival knife", I mean survival knife (fixed or folding knife) in any capacity and in any situation. Sure, certain knives are better for certain tasks in certain environments, so forth and so on, etc., etc. But, if you could only have one knife to be your "do everything" knife, what would it be and why? Obviously, there is no right or wrong answer to this question, and that's not the point. The point is, what knife works best for YOU in this "do everything survival knife" capacity?
if it was a shf scenario, it would have to be a decent machete, until i could get my hands on a smaller blade for food prep etc

A SAK or Leatherman. It’s important to me to have an assortment of tools besides a cutting edge.

In fact, I was thinking about this a bit today. I was considering what would happen if I fell off a boat or slipped and fell down a ravine.

It would be crappy if my SAK fell out of my pocket, so I ordered some tethers today to use to strap my multi-tool to my shorts or pants.

IMG_0151.JPG IMG_0156.JPG I have an idea, yet unproven, due to not using it enough, but I think my ML Hudson Bay knife would be that knife. Good size blade for heavier chores, good steel with a good temper from a great maker, and a black walnut handle that is pretty and tough. I believe this is what the OP was asking about. While it can handle the small jobs, of course I would have to cheat and have a small pocket knife too, like my Alox SA Pioneer. That is the nature of our affliction.....or joy! :D

PS - my second choice would be my JK Hudson Bay.

I think I could choose most anything I have, and make it work. But that's because a knife should be part of a comprehensive toolbox. If I'm serious about my "all terrain survival kit", I also have a hatchet, saw, pry tool, and a hammer of some kind. That way, my knife can be used exclusively for cutting things that will best be cut by a knife.

Probably a Victorinox Spirit with ratchet, or a Leatherman Charge with bits kit, as much as I love my knives, having many other tool options on a multitool is a more practical choice for me.

I would think a medium(3.5") fixed blade flat grind could handle most tasks, but that(slightly larger ) and a pocket knife would work even better.

One knife to do everything a knife should be called on to do or is it somehow supposed to be an axe, a saw and a batoning wedge also?

Certainly would be a fixed blade for me. I guess it would be A last second decision or I would just have to make due with what is hanging from the clip at the time. Probably not the leather stacked case xx. But one of these.
