If You Could Only Have One

The blades are in the middle of their 6 hour heat treat cycles, and I've already profiled out 7 blanks for the April sale, and I'm bored! The question is this, if you could only keep one firearm of the ones you already own, what would it be, and why? Pictures are always appreciated.

That is tough, if I was forced to have only one I'd probably go with the SP101 as I use it for CHL and it could potentially save the lives of me and my family. That would sure ruin hunting season but then haven't had the opportunity to go the last several years.

Long gun I would go either Mossberg 500 12 ga. or my 870 20 ga. If I had to pick between them the Mossberg would get the nod.

Handgun would be S&W 686 .357 / 4".

boy, this is a tough one. i of course like all the firearms i have for one reason or another....that's why i have each. i might have to think about this one.

I know of a few that i would/could get rid of with not much regret (i.e. replaceable). so that narrows it down to a few.

i have a Remington 1100 that used to belong to my hunting buddy's dad, so i wouldn't get rid of that one....certainly not without trying to give it back to him first.

with that said, i think the one i like the best that i would not want to part with is my Ruger GP101 Wiley Clapp edition. it just feels right.

i'll get some pics up at some point.

Great question; terrible scenario. I have to qualify this several ways to prevent having a panic attack at the thought of only keeping one gun.
1) If purely practical it would be my Remington 870 Police Mag. I had the barrel threaded for choke tubes. Multiple choke options coupled with rifle sights allow for covering of most bases from home defense and hunting to recreation
2) if sentiment is involved it would be my grandfather's Browning Auto5
3) in a rimfire rifle scenario it would be the Ruger 10/22
4) centerfire rifle would be a toss up between my Ruger M77 30-06 and the AR. I'm a fan of blue steel/walnut, but there is no denying the handiness of those damn ARs.
5) handgun would be the Les Baer Super Tac

It's not a good picture of the gun, but it's the best I have available at the moment. The gun that I would keep is my great-great-grandfather's gun, because even though it is my least useful gun, it has been in the family for 5 generations now. I plan to make it more generations.

I'm still working on an answer myself. For fun and small game it's hard to beat my Ruger Mark III with the bull barrel. Then I have my snub S&W .44, which can be loaded with heavy magnum loads, or Silvertip .44 Specials for home defense. My Kimber .45 is probably my favorite, and I shoot it better than anything else. As for the custom Glock, Connie wants to start going to the range again, so she will be shooting it. I need to think about this some more.

The day after my 8th Grade graduation in 1969 my father took me to his favorite gun shop and told me to pick out a 22 rifle. I went home with a Ruger 10/22 International (Walnut Mannlicher Full stock) It is on its 5th or 6th scope. Woe to anyone who attempts to separate us.To bad they don't seem to make ammo for it anymore. I'm one of those guys for whom everything I have is for sale, except this rifle.

This is probably way harder for me at least then asking if I kept only one knife. I love all my guns but so many for the abilities each specilizes in. I'll have to think a little on this and answer and get pics.

I may have to qualify them in catagories as some are.

Some interesting choices so far and can see why each might be a good choice. And think Guns are such personal prefence and for many can hold sentimental values that take us back to grand memories of shared days in the field, and may be the one we would pick over the "most practical or useful" choices.

As much as I want to say it would be this one

It would be this one, for several reasons. Connie bought me this in 1997 for our 11 year anniversary, so it has a special meaning for me, plus I shoot it better than anything else I own.

For myself, it would have to be my 1st deer gun my father bought for me. A Remington model 788 in .243. Just a plain jane walnut stock bolt action. With a cheap 4x scope. Boy I killed a lot of deer with that gun. Great memories! Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Years ago I had a 788 in 6mm, it was a tack driver.

Was this the one I had owned? That rifle shot a measured 3/8" 5 shot group at 100 yds of the bench for me. 6mm Remington should have surpassed the .243 in popularity many years ago but saddly it is hardly chambered in anything now.

Pug ugly was those 788's back in the day, but now they would be considered lovely in comparison to many! Did not like the clip, wish they had just put a blind magazine in them. Ordered mine in, took it home from the gun shop and spray painted it camo 3 colors that same night, my wife thaought I had lost my mind. One of the first camo guns seen in these parts. that would have been about 1978-1979. Would like to have another 6mm but in a rifle without that damned clip.

I bought mine before you were working in the shop in Orland. I got the 6mm and my friend got one in .222. We had a blast shooting groundhogs with them.
