If You Could Only Have One

I've been thinking about this and the very different uses make it very difficult to pick just one and would be hard for me to let either my Ruger Mark II or my Winchester 9422 go as they both have a lot of sentimental meaning for me.

But I may have to choose my Springfield Armory 1911 Champion Operator LW it shoots lights out and had a lot of custom work done is possibly my favorite to shoot.

I would probably have to list my Remington 1100 for an all purpose from upland game to buckshot for self defense and big game with slug barrel.

All that being said I think the Ruger Mark II would be the one I would keep if it had to be only one ... it means the most to me.
Hopefully we never have to try to choose just one. And none of my other firearms get jealous now and run away!

Right now it would likely be my XD/M 5.25.

Give me a week or so though. ;^)

I've been giving this quite a bit of thought and still have no clear answer. For me one gun would have to be capable of hunting animals as large as whitetail deer and as small as squirrel. Self defense is the other role it needs to fill. I am no expert but could harvest deer and turkey with my crossbow. That leaves small game and self defense. The compromise could be my Single Six with interchangeable cylinders.

The Ruger Single Six is the gun all three of my daughters learned to shoot with. I`ve had it a long time!

I thought some of the same things about not one firearm could cover everything ... you could use snares , traps, a bow lots of other options for some but still leaves a gap somwehre ... so I went on which one gun I have that has the most meaning to me.

A bow and single six isn't a bad option.
Thats why I added my Rem. 1100 not what I use for small game but in a pinch it could be.

I think if all things considered I could fill the needs with two but the "only one" it will run your mind in circles trying to think.

That's cool that you still have the little felt mag cylinder bag after +30 years. Mine disintegrated.

I think the 1100 is a great choice. The only reason I didn't pick a shotgun was the possibility of needing to conceal carry. Even then I was torn between an older Beretta double that I love or my Browning pump.

As far as 22's go my favorite is the Remington nylon 66, my father gave it to me way back when as my first real firearm and I have had it ever since.

That was the most reliable .22 I ever owned, even better than a 10-22! There are so many guns I wish I would have kept but sometimes life gets in the way.

Was yours the brown one with white diamond? That's what my dad had but I remember wanting the black one so that's what he got me, now a days I run across a brown one at the gun shows every now and then but never see the black or green ones.

I had the all black one and another one that was black, but the metal cover over the receiver was chrome. Gaudy as all get out, but a tack driver!
