I apologize for my inexperience and lack of knowledge from my first few post. But I must say you guys are great as well as patient and I have learned a lot from everyone here! Being a newbie in this field of knives is really tough! I lack experience, knowledge of metals, usage and so on. However, I want to learn and know what, when and how to use the proper knife. To keep me safe, dry, warm, and fed if need be. I thought I had an idea by approaching the right knives to achieve this based on size...I now believe that is the wrong approach. Obviously I know one knife cant do it all. I'm not even sure 3 could but I think I might be on the right track.

So lets rephrase this quest. If you had to pick 3 knives and only 3 (not including a Multi-tool). That would help you survive, camp, build shelter, food prep, protection, in the cold, hot, even damp conditions all of the above and so on. I call this The Armageddon/Apocalypse Knife Collection what would they be? I think this would be a fun way to approach this and I think it could be achieved with 3 maybe more maybe less the basics to fill those tasks. Think about it. I will probably post this on a few other forums as well. For I think this is fun and maybe the most useful question I have asked (Correct me if I am wrong). But I am trying to simplify this and seek the bare minimums for the tasks listed above.

I love these threads. If I could only have 3 knives I would pick:

1. ESEE RC 3
2. Bark River Bravo1
3. Busse Fusion Battle Mistress

In this case, I'd go with a bigger, a smaller and a folder.
Busse ASH-1 CG
Fehrman PeaceMaker
Strider SnG

Wait, where is my Swiss Champ, ha? Oh, I guess I can always buy it later.. :) :)

Only three then depending on terrain environment
Fiskar hatchet
Becker bk7

desert
seal pup elite
sak soldier
cold steel bushman
ocean/artic
spyderco Atlantic salt
fallkniven f1
cold steel fillet knife

sog gov tac
Swiss spirit multi tool
kabar short tanto

cold steel spear point machete/kukri
grohmann boat knife

Bark River Bravo 1SS- It can handle anything I would need from a Fixed blade

DDR HTM Gunhammer 2 in bowie blade (which I reviewed)
Burger LEXK
Busse...whatever the one is that has the bowie blade. They have too many acronyms for me to keep track of.

I have these three in my B.O.B. right now:

a Becker (Camillus) BK7, a Case #6265 two-blade Folding Hunter, and a Victorinox Huntsman - in my humble opinion, not so much a multi-tool as a utility knife.

thx - cpr

If a disaster took place where I live (near the northern Dutch coastline) and I had to choose from the knives that I currently own, these would probably be the three:

- fixed knife: Mora
- folder: EKA Swede 60
- pocket knife: Victorinox Electrician Plus
