If you could only take one CR Knife....

Thank you Desert hermit, I will take your advice.

Thank you burnside as well. I like your suggestion of the Nyala.

What I think I will do is, EDC my zaan. Stash my small sebby in the bottom of my pack along the rail velcro zip tied in place. Also; I will keep a Pacific with my BOB, in which case I will attach it to my belt, and pick up a Nyala which I will put in my wife's BOB. Or I will keep the Nyala in the food supplies, in my pack as well.

I said 1 knife, looks like I will have 4+.

Oh, and I will put the 25 in my wife's BOB or on her somewhere if I can't find somewhere good to keep it on myself.

Now I just need a leatherman multi-tool or a SAK, and a hatchet. Must research hatchets.

How does that sound?

Sounds to me like a good practical combination that should cover most actual requirements. I would suggest keeping as many of your knives on your person as possible and the folders out of sight.
I would also recommend actually wearing or carrying your BOB for a full two days, perhaps over a weekend, to help decide if you need to reduce some of the weight somewhere.
You are on the right path. When you have your BOB where you want it take it out for a weekend Field Training Excercise and put your gear to work in a simulated emergency situation.

Have your wife drop you off at a remote location of your choice on say a Friday evening, with arrangements to pick you back up on Sunday afternoon. That way you are on your own and will have to rely on only yourself and your gear. After ordering three knives in about a weeks time your dear wife will be happy to drop you off. Not sure about picking you back up however.......:D

Outstanding! Sounds like some great together time. You are fortunate to have someone who wants to enjoy the things you do.

Make your plans together and do it!! :)

If the situation were to come on me unexpected, the large Sebenza would probably be the knife I had on me. I usually don't carry a lot of extra hardware on hikes. If it were something more planed than one of the larger one piece( sorry I don't know the names-he probably has one just for this) would be good for making shelters, but I am sure you could get by with a Nyala for a few days with no major problem unless the conditions were fairly harsh. You usually don't have to baton your wood for fire (unless you are in a very wet area) and can use fire to cut wood. It also is not hard to cut sapplings for shelter with a fairly light knife.

Thanks Gentlemen!

Peter, I live in Vancouver BC, it rains more days than it doesn't. You can go under the canopy and squeeze water out of moss in the middle of the summer. I'm going to have to prepare for rain :)

At least everything is nice and green up Vacouver way. Something quite lacking here in the desert. lol
My best friend lives just up the road over in Prince George, BC. He is also a Sebenza owner/user.

Northwest coast is certainly wetter than most and needs to be adjusted for accordingly
