If you could pick one knife to take to Afghanistan what would it be?

I've seen some guys just spray paint their knives and gear desert tan before. It's also a good idea if it's not too pricey cause things get stolen A TON. It's probably better to ask some of the guys who are or were combat arms. I was just a fobbit treating trauma wounds. If we're going to Afghanistan, it's really not that bad sand wise. It's really just rocks and mountains and some snow. Not sure why everybody thinks the middle east is just sand dunes. A multi-tool is a must. I would suggest a small fixed blade if possible. Like a BK14 or Izula. I personally prefer the Izula over the 14 just because it feels better in my hand. A small fixed blade is nice cause it gives you mobility cause weight sucks. I've seen quite a few guys with scoliosis and that affects you long term. So, it's best to go as light as possible. Plus, the Izula is a very sturdy knife. If we really want to go mall ninja, I guess the Izula could ghost a tango once you run out of ammo kicking so much butt with your weapon. :)

Useful for a lot of tasks! Steel CPM-S30V Double edge, sharp, strong 0.250" (6.5 mm) made of a full tang - These types of knives worked for us in the Vietnam War and I believe they will still work today.

Of course we didn’t have by any means the outstanding steels available today. Btw- If to shiny, you can always paint this baby with Krylon Camouflage.

Im wondering what everybody would choose to do most military chores and a knife they could trust even in the worst situations.
Because I’m dealing knifes I don’t like to give a brand name or maker, (objectivity) anyway the above post makes my preferences obvious.

Id take an ESEE-3, or a Bark River Bravo 1 in A2. Choose by preference to blade thickness. If you like a thicker blade, go with the BRKT, if not, the ESEE will server you well!

I had a few folders and a Leatherman wave with me and they all served me well. I had no need for a fixed blade, but I would of taken Bark River Bravo-1 or Rat RC-4.
My folders Emerson CQC-7, Hinderer XM-18, Kershaw avalanche.

I'd take my Leatherman Surge multi-tool...(It's sort of a large Leatherman Wave.).

Stuff over there is likely to get 'snapped up' or grow feet and walk away. If you can stomach the possibility of your gear getting stolen (which many of us can't) I'd opt for the black faced Fallkniven A1. Just a great, mid-sized blade that is tough and sharp when you need it to be. Also, a decent multitool is a must.

(this is a second post, but i couldn't resist)

Yeah bud, its best to sit on the washer and dryer if you're in a group situation. Even though when I was in I spent my checks paycheck to paycheck, the key to this whole thing is replacement ability.

Not saying that a Stryder SNG wouldn't rock, but I was enlisted w/0 wife and paid housing.

I had that old Delica, the one with a plastic pocket clip. I was able to get it sharpened at the front of the PX from time to time, so mostly it was a comfort besides opening MREs'

(check out the spyderco Sharp Maker no mater what brands you get though)

Its hard to judge a clipon one handed knife before a multi tool, so I still gotta say Spyder co. Delica, Endura (grab the new FFGs) or a paramilitary 2, then look at the onix New wave, or TTi charge with a pocket clip;)

without a doubt andrew jordan commander he is ex sas and studied in japan with a master swordsmith, he is making me a commander in templar steel 128 layers 5 steels pretty much armour plated and he has a huge military background and is known as one of the worlds best bladesmiths if your life is on the line I would go with aj commander I carried a randall model 14 for 6 year in the usmc and still have it, I beat the absolute heck out of it and it almost looks new I used to open 55 gallon drums with it. I went to chop full force through a branch and it went right through and full force hit the blade right off a rock I didn't see it threw sparks everywhere and it stainless steel a little bit on the stone and it was back to normal.... Check out Andrew Jordans work you will not be disappointed

also brkt just released the bravo 1.5 that has the same handle as the bravo 1 but a 5.75 inch blade I ordered one with black linen micarta with red liners rampless cpm-3v cut down to 5.25 inches good luck and stay safe....

i'm here now,i bought an esse 5 and love it,but if your gonna be in an mrap with full battle rattle don't wear it on the hip, attach to armor or leg rig.hooah!!!! engineers lead the way!!! p.s. i forgot to mention i also carry a benchmade folder for other things, and you should get issued a gerber multi tool,if not request it from supply!

My Spyderco Endura rusted within ten days on the Nicaraguan Miskito Coast and it was never in the water, just walking around in salt-water humidity and 100 degrees every day.
