If you could redesign the swisstool...

What would you add or change? I'd like the sheath to come standard in leather. Also, spring loaded pliers would be nice! Add scissors and have a reamer with eye. Slim down the thing a bit. Add an extendable magnet to take place on the other side of the knife opposite the scissors, they can be pretty useful. Have it come in the black finish, i like that, they have one now that looks pretty sweet. That's all i can think of right now. I'm talking about the standard swisstool, i know they have one with scissors already. Spring loaded pliers would be sweet though, i love the ones on my gerber legend 800.

Needlenose pliers.

I kind of like the pliers the way they are, they feel stronger. But i do agree, if they could be/feel just as strong needle nose pliers would be awesome. Sometimes i wish i had them, sometimes i'm glad i didnt, because the tips would get in the way. Or maybe make the standard and a standard NN (needle nose)?

True needlenoses and flipper outside main blades. I hate the fingernail nick for certain things. That to me is the only real advantage leatherman has over swisstool.

Id really like it if the pliers cutting surface was abit longer, so it was more like the LM Wave. It really annoys me when it takes 2 cuts to sever a zip-tie, where the Wave could have done it in one cut.

Other than that i really dig the Swisstool.

I would probably introduce some tabs to help get the tools open other than the little finger nicks. They especially are a pain if the blade is tight and you break your nail pulling it out.

I would also put on a much better lanyard. I am often above the ground and need to physically tie my blades and multitools to a belt loop to make sure they don't fall and I much prefer the lanyard loop on the back of the tool like you see on a Leatherman Wave or Charge, than the design of the Swiss Tool.

A diamond file and a sharp poker for poking holes digging out splinters and such.

(Working off the Spirit, since I don't have an original Swisstool):

Better scissors.
No knife blade -- move the file to its spot.
Take out the phillips and small straight drivers, for a Cybertool-style bit and spare holder in the space where they and the file were.

I would first off make it more of a stonewashed finish so it isn't so damn slippery. Next, I'd want the standard Victorinox RS configuration but I'd like a one hand opening plain edge blade, a style of opening the rescue blade like on the Rescue Tool (a little protrusion that you can easily open on a belt loop etc, square off the slotted drivers, redesign the Philips driver to make it fit better, make the full size SwissTool jaws a little more needle nose with replaceable cutters, and I'd like the reamer to have a hole. That may seem like a lot, but, that would be the BEST multitool ever!

I also was thinking about a bit holder & replaceable cutters, but i wasn't so sure it would need it. That would make the handles huge, the replaceable cutters sometimes shear the screw off that holds them on. I've had that problem before.

Yeah, on your Gerber 800 Legend. I'm not bashing Gerber, but their tools are toys compared to LM or Vic IMO. I have abused my ST300 cutters and the screws haven't sheared off..

Well, it was one screw and i havent had a problem since. I do agree, i dislike gerber as a company and don't buy anything thats related to them. I got it for christmas one year from my parents, and kind of put it off to the side. But one day i picked it back up, and to be honest it's not a bad tool. It's light, the scissors and knife are sharp, the pliers are suprisingly good and i've had no problems with it. I dislike the locks but they've loosened up so theyre also growing on me. The sheath needs updating though.

(Working off the Spirit over here too.) Pocket clip, like it should have had in the beginning.

I've thought about a pocket clip, but that's a HEAVY tool to be clipped to the pocket.

It's all about the pants. The Swisstool is fairly heavy but I'm guessing it'll be similar to the Surge clipped to a pocket. Wearing regular jeans or heavy work pants I never had a problem with the Surge, but I could see how it would be a boat anchor in slacks of something.

Also, pocket clips aren't just for pockets. Some of us roll IWB and the Swisstool/Spirit are perfect for this since they're smooth and comfortable against the body.

I suppose one handed opening knife and a diamond coated side of the file would be the only major changes i'd make.

I've been edcing my Spirit for several years now, so I've developed some notions by now about what I'd change if I could.

1. Spearpoint knife blade (Like the Spirit X) I gave mine a serration-ectomy and beveled both sides, which is almost as good.

2. Standard SAK scissors instead of the Spirit ones.

3. Add an eye to the awl and remove that useless hook from its base.

4. diamond coating on one side of the file.

5. A sheath with a snap instead of velcro.

1. Diamond file
2. S30V blade one hand opening
3. replaceable wire cutters
4. less polished screwdrivers (like leathermans)
5. pouch like the LM supertool 300 black oxide
6. The compound pliers like that of the SOG
7. more needle nosed pliers
8. ESEE/Busse Warranty :p

Do they really have a velcro sheath with the spirit? That's crummy. The swisstool has a snap. And what hook on the awl?

would be magical to be able to switch from blunt to needle nose pliers!
2-headed pliers would be a first, despite the ungodly weight.
a universal slotted blade for replaceable metal saws and box cutter blades; as with the plier's wire cutters.
a magnifyer with a magnetic pick-up tip (make that telecsopic).
a small LED.
not expecting the world but as always, a down to earth pricing is what everyone really wants... just make 'em cheaper.
