This is something I try and live by. Sometimes my impatience just gets the best of me. I decided I wanted to try and take a massive evenheat vertical kiln and convert it to a ht oven. Ot would have worked out great if I actually knew what I was doing. This thing was a nightmare. I burned through 1 PID, 2 SSRs, 2 or 3 thermocouples, 2 extension cords. I'm actually really lucky I didn't start an electrical fire. All of this would have been avoided if I would have just bought the right stuff the first time. Proper bricks, pre made coils made for 120v, and a plug and play PID. All of which is just a couple of hundred bucks. Lesson learned. Buy the best, make the best or do without. Un did everything and hooked it up to the forge. Atleast something will be temperature controlled.

I made My electric kiln myself too. Took me two or three years when it was completely finished. I was focused to easily maintain it, quick disassembly and re-assembly and easily change damaged parts. It is quite big because of chamber length but works nicely and I am totally satisfied.
