I epoxied two pieces of 1x2 red oak together and then drilled 1/2 holes a little over 1/2 inch deep and drilled 1/16th weep holes through the center to the other side to let the epoxy squeeze out. Then I epoxied 1/2 x 1/2 cylindrical rare earth magnets I bought off the net into the holes lush with the top of the wood. I cut a piece of 1/16 steel sheet to fit and drill 4 little holes for tiny brass nails in the corners and epoxied the steel to the block finishing with the nails. lastly, I screwed a [piece of sheet metal to one end sticking up just enough to catch and hold a blade. The last photo shows a blade with a spot of layout blue in a low spot after being ground on my flat platen. I have made more than one of these but the problem is with heat build up and warpage that I think will be solved with the sheet steel liner. This works much better than a welder's magnet for me and I thought I might share it. Larry
