If You Had 60 Dollars?

The reason i liked the Griptilian was because of how strong and reliable the axis lock is. My brother said that instead of wasting my money on the knives Ive bought that i should get a good reliable knife that wont make me want to get others because it wasn't good enough. The Endura however looks absolutely amazing in toxic green, i just wish it wasn't a forum knife.. cause i cant seem to find one cheaper than like 140... He actually just recently got a knife that has been on my radar for a while, a Boker Subcom... he said he needed something that was more sheeple friendly than his griptilian.. which is making me kinda have second thoughts about it.. cause that's the reason im getting a knife...

I personally think the regular Endura Wave looks better than the USN forum version. If you like the Endura Wave but want something a little more non-knife people friendly, what about the Delica Wave?

I'd buy the Endura 4.
Every collection should have one in it,it's a classic.
A hard working, proven design, that Spyderco has been improving for almost 20 years.
Now for an awesome company like Spyderco to keep a knife around for as long as the Endura has been,IMO that speaks volumes about it.

First would be the Kershaw Blur, which actually comes in a variety of blade steels compared to the other two. You can find the models in 13C26, the newer 14C27, S30V, S60V, 154CM, and the even older 440A's still floating around. Even the higher end models run around the same price point. The Blur is an excellent knife, very comfortable in the hand, great blade length, and liner lock. The Blur has an open design which makes it easier to clean when out in the field and/or working. Only downside is it is only set for right hand carry - tip up and tip down.

Next would be the Spyderco Endura 4. Excellent VG-10 steel, thick blade all the way up to the tip, time tested lockback design. The Endura carries very slim in the pocket and is 100% ambidextrous. Great knife, can't go wrong with it, and is a real work horse.

Last would be the Benchmade Griptilian. The axis lock is very smooth and fun to play with, but there have been many horror stories of the omega springs breaking at unexpected times. 154CM blade on the updated models, and 440C on the older ones. Great knife, comes in either hollow sheepsfoot, or flat ground drop point (or the ritter grip at twice the price in S30V).

Any of these three would be great, but IMO, the Blur is the most comfortable to work with over longer periods of time, then the Endura, and lastly the Griptilian. The clip on the griptilian seemed to rub my palm the wrong way when I used my griptilian in the past. I don't know if it was just me, but that is my first hand experience with these knives.

I hope this helps, J.

If you want something else, in part, because the Tenacious scares people how are any of these knives going to be any better?

You want sheeple friendly, get a slipjoint. Queen makes killer slipjoints. They need a good sharpening when you get them though.

Any "Tacticool" knife isn't going to be sheeple friendly.

You might consider the Spyderco Pacific Salt. It's the Gen3 Endura handle design with the rust free H1 steel blade. No screws or liners. Very light in the pocket. There's a black blade version out now that's pretty nice looking. You can find them in your price range.

So you wanted something smaller than doesn't freak peoples out?
try:
- Spyderco Persistence (Mini Tenacious. Itss maller than it appears )
- Kershaw Zing (get orange handle version. It tones down knives aggressiveness a lot and Zing generally is excellent knife )
- Kershaw Junkyard Dog I ( II have liner's, I's have framelocks ) I don't think this is much better than Tenacious...
- Sypderco Dragonfly is nice and small folder.

Griptilian is good choice.

I was thinking of the Persistence just because it would be nice to have basically the same knives just a smaller version. And with 60$ i could get 2 :)

But on the other hand I am looking for something with a blade that isn't wide or aggressive looking. Just something good for EDC with blade steel comparable to the Tenacious or better. I have held the Blur but only the tactical tanto blade at Walmart. My brother has the 551 which I have held and gotten used to the axis lock. As far as the omega spring goes, does Benchmade replace it? I really like the way the Endura looks and I will look into the Pacific Salt, the only problem is no one around me sells Spyderco so I wont be able to see how it feels or anything... Which is why I'm still iffy on the Endura, no matter how much I like it.

I think someone around me does own a Delica if that's a good comparison to the Endura in terms of feel and overall design. I know its the little brother of the Endura so I will have to contact that person and see what its like.

Well, I'm surprised no one has said to just plan on getting all 3. Of the 3 you mentioned, I think the Blur's the smallest of the 3. If you're looking for sheeple friendly, that might be your best bet. It's a little heavier than the other 2, but it's thin (Like the Delica/Endura) & you can get different steels. I loved the stonewash finished S60V I had & I think the latest 154CM is also with a SW finish.

If you're looking for a "friendlier" knife & decide against the Blur (Or want lighter weight), then you might consider the mini-Grip or Delica. Both have about 3" blades. However, the Delica's handle will be thinner & slightly longer, possibly affording you a better grip/fit if you have large hands.

Also, keep in mind that if tip-up only is an issue for you, the Delica/Enduras allow you 4-way carry. Also, IF it's an issue, both the Grip & D/E's allows for left hand use W/O any problems.

The more I think about it, a mini-Grip, Delica (Waved or not), or a Salt I (I think that's the Delica 3 handle) would be great.

Good luck on what you get.

I prefer the Endura over the Griptilitan. I have a Grip 551 and don't particularly like the blade shape (prefer the ritter model) and the Griptilian handle is too thick for comfortable edc use imo.

I'd recommend the Endura or Pacific Salt, although both of those have fairly long blades and may not be really sheeply friendly. Have you considered the Delica or Salt 1?

I just had the same dilemma the other day. I have most of the knives mentioned, wanted something different, and I was also looking for something more sheeple friendly. I decided on a Fallkniven U2, its a smaller blade (2.5 Inches) lock back knife with no liners to speak of. Its is not tactical at all (dual nail nicks), but i think for edc it will serve quite well. Also it has good steel. I don't have mine yet (hopefully tomorrow), so i cant be that sure. It maybe about $10 over your limit.

I have the endura 4 and the grip and much prefer the endura mostly because it is so thin. I think it is one of the best values on the market.

I own the Endura 4 Wave and I love it. As far as scaring ppl I do have to say that the Endura 4 is on the longer side especially with it deploying straight from my pocket (with the wave) some may feel uneasy. Delica is the smaller version and just as reliable. I love both of these knives and recommend them.

I have yet to have my own grip but I do plan on getting one as well for variety/collection.

Of those three, I have a grip and an endura. Aesthetically, I'd give the edge to the grip, but IMO the endura is more ergonomic. I like them both, but the endura has has a lot more pocket time for me.

can someone post a picture comparing the mini grip and the full size grip... ive always wondered just how much of a difference the 2 are.
