If you had to choose only one?

ASH1LE, SFNOLE, or NMSFNOLE, which one is it?

Already have a Skinny Ash, so I don't think there would be a lot of benefit to the Ash1LE, maybe I'm wrong. I've seen posts of the NMSFNOLE being a very good all arounder also.

Thanks for any input.

Those are three fantastic blades and all of them will perform the "generalist" role. The ASH1 LE is the easiest to carry. The NMSFNOLE is the better chopper. The SFNOLE is the best compromise between the two.

If I had to pick only one it would be the SFNOLE and I would never look back. If I was looking for a two knife solution, I would pick the NMSFNOLE + BAD to cover all my bases.

NMSFNOLE, every time. It is the best chopper out of those three, because it has more blade length and a better handle (the handle butt on the ASH digs into my pinky really bad when chopping). It is also the prettiest and most comfortable in hand, and not too large to do small jobs with, although a much smaller knife than any of those three would be ideal.

you cannot choose "only one"...that's not the play here.:D
you can choose "WHICH FIRST", tho'.:)

I've got - in this range - the Skinny, a SFNOLE, and an ASHLE, but the fact that the NMSFNO is exists, just doesn't let me sleep well...:barf::D

I agree, the SFNOLE is maybe the best compromise, but if you go for a NMSFNO and a small blade - you've got everything covered. ...and you've got more INFI.

tough, I know.

I have had/held/used them all and the NMSFNO is the best ONE knife IMO

SFNO-LE is my top choice of the three.

The ASH-1 LE is a great knife and feels wonderful in the hand, but the SFNO LE has a more versatile handle and a bit more blade.

I don't quite get on with the NMSFNO yet, we're not sure of each other. I would likely carry my HHFSH if I wanted that sort of size. It might grow on me yet though, especially when I get around to stripping and polishing it...

I have all of the blades styles you've mentioned
except the SFNO LE... and here are my thoughts.

You have a Skinny ASH1... it has a little more forward balance than the ASH-1 LE, but maybe not so much as the saber ground SFNO LE. But all three... the Skinny ASH1, ASH1 LE, and SFNO LE all have pretty much the same blade size, all right at the same thickness, they just have varying forward balance.

My personal pick of those 3 would be the ASH1 LE. I just think the ASH1s have better ergos in the hand over the SFNOs. The blade lenght is more appropriate for the handle proportionally.

Now... the NMSFNO (to me) has the right blade length for the handle size. It has great balance and overall feel in the hand is better than the SFNO size (LE, CG and the lot).

So... seeing as you have the Skinny ASH, I would get the NM SFNO.

Any non-NM SFNO gets my nod. The LE is first choice. Carries well, not too big, not too small and no pinky finger blisters from the handle.
I handled an ASH and it carries well but its not a chopper and kind of short for batoning.

 ... ...

The the SFNOs pretty much have the same blade length at the ASH1s do.
So they really should baton the same (other than blade thickness and grind style).

Of all those mentioned I think that the SHSH is the best choice.
Once you have held the "Precious" you WILL understand.

Foo, it's the handle that does it for me. I can choke back on it to baton. Not much blade differance but the ash's point drops quicker and your hand isn't stuck in one spot on the SFNO models. I can't stand a tight handle and no wiggle room.

Just my opinion.

I'd love one of those, would just need to save some more money for one.

Oh and thanks for the replies.

My vote is for the NMSFNO le or the SFNO le. The stain blades are the best and you wont regret getting the LE, resell is better, grind and sharpness is better! I have a SFNO le and it shaves hair!!! I mean this is super sharp! Plus if you buy a CG you might always have the nagging thought that for an extra couple of bucks you could have had the LE!!

Valid points.

And I agree... handles ARE definitely a personal preference thing!
For me... the SFNOs just feels and looks like it has WAY too much handle. :o

Average sized hands fit the ASH just fine.
