If you had to get rid of most of 'em tomorrow, which three would you keep?

Actually, I have been fortunate that the Ms. is understanding of the hobby (and I of her handbag addiction ;))

Mine has started her own Ironwood Fiddleback collection. I keep my Ironwood Runt hidden from her .. cause, she'll probably take it and try shave someone with it.

"...If Andy Roy stopped making knives tomorrow, which three would I keep?" .....

wrong perception:

if Andy Roy will stop making knives tomorrow you will keep all you have at that moment because at least for YOU they become antique

and knowing that no one more will come make you greedy, greedy, greedy....

answering your question:
EDC, HB and bush boot - I just like them

Ah sorry I missed this one Taja; great selection of utilitarian blades! And yes a very good point indeed

I will buy anyone of you guys a beer, any day! It would be my honor! I have 300+ beers in my bowling center and all local (VA and NC) beers in my restaurant, except for Chimay, which is too popular to get rid of. I have good beer for everyone!

Now, for you guys making me imagine and consider my worst nightmare, you can kiss my grits! :) I hope I dream of snakes tonight and not being without Fiddlebacks!

I was referring to OP Will, but I will accept a beer from anyone any day, and they don't even have to be named Will. :)

Sounds like quite the setup you have going there. I might be in Raleigh for work in the future and would gladly drive up to raise a toast with you.

Will, for sure I'll be stopping by for a brew, hopefully after my pilgrimage to Fiddleback HQ when I'm in TN in January

Not to worry all -- I'm not abandoning my beloved fiddlebacks ;) ! Ironically, when it comes to gear I'm actually quite a minimalist who lives by "buy right once, and never buy again".. the narrow exception to this mantra has been Andy's knives. I've tried countless times to do a "purge", but inevitably I wind up right back around the 10-14 mark. Do I need 14 knives, no -- I only have two hands :p, but I'm glad to see that many of you are in the same boat that I'm in when posed the question!

I had pics up for the sake of having pics -- I got swamped this afternoon after posting, and was planning on putting up the proposed combos -- guess I'll have to do this tomorrow!

Actually, I have been fortunate that the Ms. is understanding of the hobby (and I of her handbag addiction ;))

Good call on your selection walt -- I need to try out a bishop one of these days, although I did have a 3/16" TT comp cutter for a while; heck of a knife! BTW, I already miss that woodsman, it is and will always be an epic knife for me.

Good one as well Dave, my current Duke in 3/16" would probably maintain top position in the "if you could only keep ONE" thread

Also a good combo Vance -- I recently had a custom axe made for me, and it has changed my perspective on a lot of things; then again, I've seen Iz Turley videos where he is felling a small tree with a 4" blade. None the less, I've still never tried a runt; its definitely something I need to get around to!

I like this setup Nathan! The camp nessie is my #2 go to in the "if you could only keep ONE" scenario -- paired with a pointy accomplice (woodsman, kephart, bearpaw), its a pretty money setup... now you've got me thinking!

Hahaha thanks for weighing in Jules -- another common sense setup, and I'm also a big fan of the 5/32" kephart, so right on

Thanks Will -- I was sure I would see a bushfinger in there and you didn't disappoint! After all this trauma, it sounds like I owe you a Chimay (although I like LaChouffe as well!)

Duly noted -- I'm firing up the home brew setup in two weeks; looking like we'll do a scotch ale and maybe a trippel. Any one on page 1 who is interested in relief from this traumatic exercise in critical thinking, please PM me your mailing address, and I'll try to get a >16oz flip-top out to you when the batch is complete!

Good one Dave -- both you and Walt mentioned the SP; its a great & versatile profile that is commonly overlooked (IMO) when it comes to overall usefulness!

International shipping for the home brew ok? If not I'll have to re-route on my next trip to US😉

I would keep my Jade green (stainless) EDC 2, my Curley maple Hunter and my Honduran Rosewood Bushfinger.

I'd keep the Camp and matching guardless S35VN Ladyfinger

I'd also keep this S35VN Recluse since I'm a bit sentimentally attached to it

And then I'd start stalking the forum for a replacement Hunter and Bushfinger... :o

by the way It yours EDC :) - o'well now it mine

my husband dos not like it - to strange form
by my daughter like it

most of bigger knives - the handle is big for my hand

Only three......that's tough
3/16" Camp - truly a workhorse
Bushcrafter
Scandi Recluse - one of my favorites

These are my last three...

  • Bear Paw in Emerald Shadetree with Blue Pinstripes CPM 154
  • Hiking Buddy in Cornflower Blue G10 with White Pinstripes in 01
  • EDC II in Natural micarta with Green pin strips in CPM 154

Camp knife - 3/16 (wish mine had a tapered tang)

Kephart - 5/32 but 1/8 will do

Nessmuk (standard or camp) - 5/32

Sneaky Pete is a close runner up, and I'm sure a Bushcrafter will fit in there somewhere when I get around to trying one.

Would be hard to replace a SAK for one of the small fixed blade options for me.

Thanks Will for starting a real brain-buster!

Even though it pains me tremendously to think of reducing down to a small number of Fiddlebacks, I accept the fact that life happens and sometimes we must make difficult decisions in hard times.

I am not one to shy away from a challenge, so here goes:

If I could only keep one it would be my Duke.

If I could only keep two it would the Duke and my thicker handled Emerald Bushcrafter.

If I added a third, my first choice would be a stainless Fiddle-textured Padre with a bright colored synthetic handle. I don’t have one, but that has been #1 on my Fiddleback wish list for many months.

Sticking with what I have, I would add my Camp Nessie to the Duke and Bushcrafter to complete my trio.

Well there you have it. I feel like I need to go wash my brain out with soap now and then ask forgiveness to my other favorites for abandoning them...

Phil
