If you had to pick 3 blades what would they be ?

Hmmm,

In deference to my Scottish ancestry I'd have to pick some type of variation on a claymore, a dirk and a sgian dubh.

Claymores being somewhat frowned upon by the local constabulatory hence knocking the AK 47 from my list I'd have to go with my:

Mr. Mojo
CP Jungle Anorexic Badger (Looove this knife)
Active Duty (Mebee my Killer B instead)

SHBM, LMS, AS

:D :D

This is a tough one, but here goes:

Large = FBM (or any BM I guess)
Medium = NO-E or BA-E (both kick a$$)
Small = GW (Lep or Tan/DC) or AD or MrS (I think all would work well)

I need to down size my blades and buy good ones. These blades would be used for general purpose woods bumming camp chores survival hunting work..... which 3 knives you would pic and why

I know I already answered this.......twice, but something occured to me since then.

As I previously stated, paring down TO 3 from what you already own is one question. ACQUIRING 3 from scratch is totally another matter. This IS about the Busse clan, after all.

If I had to pare down, I'd keep:

1) Heavy Heart w/ Snakeskin (this one will never leave me)

2) OD Hell Razor (bought it for my birthday, so it's not going anywhere)

3) FBM (one of the two I currently have.)

I mentioned an Active Duty to fulfill the role of a smaller knife, but upon serious reflection, I'd hate to give up my FBM for it. After all, almost any smaller sized knife of good quality would suffice for me, but where could I find a comparable big blade? The FBM is in a class by itself.

Ok, now if I had to ACQUIRE 3 blades, it would depend upon the money available to spend and/or the time frame in which I "had" to acquire them.

A standard Fusion Steel Heart or Heavy Heart these days is topping the $500 mark, far above what they sold for originally. A Hell Razor just sold for over $500 as well (altho it did have a snazzy $30 sheath with it!)

So, for acquisition, to me, it seems more of a matter of what's AVAILABLE, as opposed to what you think you want. If you don't already own or have access to these blades, how do you know you'll like them $500 worth?

If I had to acquire them to fulfill the roles from small to large, with no particular time frame and had to watch the pennies just a little bit, I'd get:

1) FBM........these are still popping up at the Store and on the Exchange at or very near the original price. I just bought one at LESS than original price. It's a beast of a knife that has no equal and it won't weigh you down (not talking about the FFBM here)

2) Active Duty......same thing as the FBM. It's just being sent out from a 'ganzaaa, so prices are still mostly reasonable. Be open to either the Muddy or Sage finish.

2-A) Keep an eye out at the Swamp for a Howling Rat LM to show up at the Company Store. Hey, it could happen !

3) Anniversary Steel Heart........coming up soon, to a Busse Site near you. Select the options you want, pay original price and patiently wait for them to ship your knife.

That's what I'd do.

I really like the combo I am using now..

1-SH-A SE
2-Ratmandu
3-Game Warden

This may change once I get a chance to try out the blades that are/will be (hopefully) waiting for me when I get back to Canada next month: HRLM,M6,Uncle Mini Mojo, Active Duty, Meaner Street, FFFBM !

I sold my Badger TAC as the handles were a bit too narrow for my hand, but after having thatmguy's Badger SE in hand at Blade, I will be looking for a badger with a wider grip (either mag handles or an SE) as I love the size/shape of the BATAC.

Well, it depends on what you were using them for . . .

If you plan on doing a lot of "delicate" usage:
1- 2-3" blade

1- 4-6" blade

1- 7"-+ chopper

For more general usage:
1- 3-4" blade

1- 5-7" blade

1- 8"-+ chopper

EDIT: FWIW, I do a LOT of hunting . . . big game, "medium game", small game, and birds.
When I was younger I just had to use my 6" survival knife to clean big and small game, and my swiss army knife to clean small game and birds. It was big, and looked like Rambo's knife, so it had to be good, right?

As I got older I began questioning the logic of using such a large knife to clean big/medium game, and started using my Dad's "old" Gerber Model 400 (a sterile version of their presentation knife).
That little 4" knife has cleaned everything! Fish (I was unprepared that day), Duck, Squirrel, Antelope, Deer, Elk, Moose, Bear, etc . . .

In my "maturity" I have learned one thing: a 4" drop-point blade is just about the PERFECT hunting knife (and all around knife for that matter).

My dream: a Busse homage to the Gerber 400.

Well I'm a firm believer in the K.I.S.S. principle.

1) SHBA
2) SHBA
3) SHBA

I'm a sucker for medium sized blades, so I'd want three different medium sized blades:

Medium Large -- SHSH
Medium -- SFNO
Medium Small -- BATAC or HRLM.

I might consider a Dumpster Mutt for the MS if I got a chance to handle one.

You know? Based on familiarity and usage, I could pare the list down to this pair if pressed.

*Heavy Heart with mags
*1st gen Howling Rat

Those two, my Blackhawk with 200 grain hardcasts and the old 1959 Winchester 94? I'd be just fine. ;) I'm a simple man with simple needs...
