If you only could have 1 sharpening stone or Paper

I have my sandpaper, mousepad and 2 diamond stones in a bag that I do/would grab on the way out the door.

i have been using a fallkniven DC-3 , double sided stone.... it has a fine ceramic stone on one side and a diamond plate on the other.... they work great.. and are very small...

My Eze-Lap Sportsman model diamond rod in the brass rod. I can resharpen a blade in no time with this one. I love it.

I have THREE DMT shrapeners
The gree plastci, the red plastic amd the sliver "extra coarse"
This post said which ONE would you take
So I took the green "extra fine"!!
I figured in a survival situation could just use the "extra muscle" required since it's a "extra fine"

I keep a credit card sized diamond plate in my wallet, so it's not an issue. I've got some 9 micron film glued to the back for final polish.
It started out as a fine, but after 15+ years of use it's more like an
an extra fine now. I keep my knives pretty sharp so this works well.
If I think I'm going to be working on knives that are a bit dull I add
a 4" X 1 1/4" x 1/16" two sided diamond plate in medium/fine. This
would probably be my choice if I had to choose one for everything.

I have several sharpening stones, etc but if I could only have one, 3 sided hewlett jewel stick. I have used it for years and it's still going strong.

Nice across the board selection guys; I note the DMT emphasis, then the sandpaper folks, then the EZE pen and then all out sharpeners. Seems fine to medium is a choice too here.

If I could only have one stone it would be my DMT Extra Fine Diamond "keychain" sharpener

I'll second that, but I would take the fine (red) vs. extra-fine (green).

I'm not good enough at sharpening to use the extra-fine to its full potential, and I get a good-enough edge with the fine.

I'm a light backpacker, so this piece of equipment is ideal, at 1.6 oz.

Depends on what knife I would need to sharpen....
A DMT diafold hone would probably be my best bet.

I'am another Fallkniven Diamond/ceramic user. DC-4 for me.

Me 2!
Sometimes I bring my little leather strop loaded with some compound as well. I always wear a leather belt, so no need for the strop, but it makes sharpening easier. Even used my leather shoes with great success, got it back to shaving again.

Sandpaper works better for me and is lighter than stones, but a decent diamond stone will last longer. Accordingly, if I could have only the one, I guess it would have to be the diamond stone.

Either should keep your knife sharp enough to deal with zombies or zombie threads. :D

Id grab the axe stone I use for pretty much everything , its an oddball round stone with a fine and coarse side .
I usualy have my belt on my pants , so I have strop . if there is civilisation anywhere nearby .. there will be cardboard , glassy paper , maybe a glass bottle .. all good improvised sharpening stuffs . Its kinda hard to stick to the one sharpener ...
