If you only have one? - RC-3, RC-4, Izula

i've got the izula and rc4. covers pretty much everything i do, hunting, camping, ect.
the izula is the one that really surprised me, i use it every day. thats why iam going to get the folder so i can carry it at work.

I have all (3) knives mentioned here with the Izula being the newest to the family. I have to say though that the Izula has become my favorite knife. I carry it with me everyday now.

With that said. If I could only own one ESEE knife. I'm sure it would be the ESEE-4. Hunting, backcountry hiking, camping, there is just too many situations where the ESEE-4 is superior. Unlike some I like a bigger knife, I feel very secure while in the woods with a knife like the ESEE-4.

I carry 4 to 5 inch blades more then any other sized knife so I'd go with the RC-4.

Thanks for everybody's input.

I knew there was no to get just one.

I can happily say that an RC-3MIL and Izula are on their way.:D

RC-4 in rescue orange is on the birthday wish list.

I orderedan RC-3Mil and a OD Izula 2 days ago, i can understand your choice a lot there pal. To wilderness survival (even more.. without a machete) I would have brought an RC5 but it wasnt on your choice list

izula for neck knife (not wearing on my neck)
RC3 (a small knife)
RC5 (a bigger knife, tank, wood chopper)
X (a machete/golok/parang of your choice for shelter building, can be done easily with RC5 also)

i got no rank for a middle knife between RC3-RC5 for an RC4. (the game could have been different if i never had gotten an RC5 first)

i have the iz. ,3, and 4, as well as a rtak II....I use the iz. the most because i don't leave the house without it....In the woods i use the 3 the most...in fact i field dressed two 150+ lbs hogs last week with the 3...the 4 and my pack knife serve in kits for hurricane evacs.

Thanks for the hog cleaning input --- I mainly use a Chris Reeve's for that right now (Skinner or Mountaineer). How do you find edge retention?

I always find it amazing how hog hair/hide dulls a blade.

Congrats on your hogs BTW, good eating size.

their are more hogs than you can shake a stick at around here...they are driving the ranchers crazy....we popped five in one week....there is a group of about 13 still ravaging my buddies ranch...we will have em all in the next couple of weeks hopefully...i enjoy the free year round hunting...as for as the blade handling it....i did both hogs with only a few strokes on the steel in between....it probably did not need it but i did joint it at the neck with the the rc3 instead of the bonesaw just to see if i could..Drew

i would get the HEST,because the Izula might be too small for me. i'm not too much of an outdoors nw to use the other ones at this time. :)

Well as for the original question if I only had to have one ESEE knife it would be an RC 3. This holds true to the point that I just received my First ESEE knife today and the 3 is the one I decided to go with. I love this knife and I will be buying more of these knives as soon as i can. I cant wait to go out and start putting it through its paces. This is also my first time on this site and my first post.

Yep, I graduated high school in TX (Killeen, while my Dad was stationed at Fort Hood). Hunted hogs there a lot, now I mainly do it in GA and SC. They are incredibly prolific and destructive. I live in VT now, but I fly down a couple times a year, pop one or two, and fly home with the meat.

I like the RC3 better for EDC & the hunting laws in my state state a knife with a blade no bigger than 4". But for survival, the RC4 wins out as # 1.

id have to go with the 4 unless i had to use it around town a lot then id stick with the izzie
