What a difference the 3d scales make on the guardian 3. Mind you, I don't really have a complaint against the regular g10 scales, except my hands are kind of big and I like a little more swell to the scales I use. I ordered some 3d scales and man are they great. I have only one gripe about them (which is just for me probably), they have an odd flare to the butt end of them. That flare was giving me a hot spot on the pinky area after continuous use.
I modded them sanding and radiusing that rear area. It is not perfect for me. I freaking love this knife.
Sorry I didn't take before pics to show you how they flair in the rear but here's some progress shots of what I did:
Continued taking a bit more off and rounding to smooth it out:
Finished project after going over it with 400 grit to keep some grip and maintain the factory look:
And of course in hand pics so you can see how it would look in your hands hahaha:
It goes without saying usually, but I'll mention it again. You really need to use eye protection and a respirator if you are going to sand up micarta. This is not something you need to do to the 3d scales, I just like to make things exactly how I want them so I did a little modding. Love my guardian 3. It's perfect for me.
