• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

If you owned a knife company ?

Ken,

With computerized tooling, production and inventory control, there should be no problem with customizations with a limited number of patterns to deal with. Most of the changes would be to handle materials and blade types that would be have been roughed out previously. The number of people would be minimized by the automated production.

Turnaround would be almost immediate. The order would be entered into the system and the materials would be worked into normal production schedules automatically, which would minimize waste.

Would we still need custom knife makers? Sure! There will always be a market for the handmade custom product. I doubt that the customer using this system to "create" a knife would find the product a replacement for a true handmade custom. And no matter how sophisticated the automated processes are for the mass producers, somebody has to come up with workable and marketable designs.

I would envision my company as a Buck Knives meets William Henry and type. The basic product type, though more limited, of Buck with materials like William Henry. Then combine that with the production concepts used by Honda and Toyota. Oh yeah, and the money to get all this cool stuff set up.

Attention: Some assembly may be required. Batteries not included.

I would like to see something akin to the randall model of offering preprescribed options but without the heavy lead time. The gerber BYO and speedtech color choices are in that group also. Have a few Fairly diverse blade patterns and then have the options speced on ordering. These options could be prefabed so it would just be about assembly. I LIKE CHOICES !
"Yes this is boriquas knife world"
"Um I would like the death monger blade with finger grip in tan micarta with titanium double guard"
"Great you should have it in about Three weeks"

ah dreams

First of all, all of the knives would be designed, and made in the USA from materials from the USA!

I would concentrate on making using knives. A full line of pocketknives, larger folders, and sheath knives. Knives are tools designed to be used as such. they would have to be well made of quality materials, have simple utilitarian looks with a strong guarantee, at the lowest possible cost. This would have to involve a consumer advisory group of the users out there. What do they want and need. I would aggressively market these knives in major discout and retail outlets, specialty outlets and direct sales.

I would also pursure the specialty market: military, law enforcement, etc.

And finally, I would probably devote a portion of the business to custom and collectors knives.

I would make a bunch of knives & wind up keeping all of them...
