If you pre-ordered a DEK3 in Magnacut and want to change your order to Delta 3V, please let Jo know.

I didn't get in on this preorder, but I'm sorry to hear about the issues with the Magnacut DEK3s. I had hoped to try one in the new steel offering in a Friday sale.

My first thought much as others, I doubt you would have any trouble selling some "blems" if it's only a cosmetic issue. Maybe that will at least offset any possible loss on this run.

As always a stand up offer. And a huge reason CPK has such a loyal following. Thanks for the transparency!

I'm pretty sure that if Nathan was okay with selling a blemished product at a discount (or not) that he'd have made than an option vs refund. I admire his (their) integrity and dedication to providing a first rate product to customers, and if I was in his position I might struggle with the same choices too.

The problem is that eventually these blemished ones would make it out into the wild, and could reflect poorly on the company IF all people did not know it was a B-stock or blemished product vs normal production. That means marking them with something like "Test Sample Only, Do Not Sell", or "Blemished Seconds", etc... That might also be misinterpreted by people who were not in the know, who might assume things about quantity of blemished products, or quality control, etc.

I crack up watching your videos. You have that Bob Ross cadence and calm. What looks like is about to be a disaster…..you turn into a happy little bush. As I just sit back in pure astonishment and delight.

Because one day damnit……I’ll take the K18!!!!!!!!!

I think we're going to have to give Nate some time to figure out whether the issue is merely "skin deep" or something more "malignant", and he won't know that for certain until he has had the opportunity to run some tests on the "tainted" batch of steel.

At that point he'll be able to advise whether the blades would be salvageable as blems with simple cosmetic issues, or whether they would superficially look like CPKs but not perform as such, which would probably kibosh any such project.

#notnathan but I do communicate with him through the aether de vez en cuando.

There's a lot in play here.

I get the aversion to selling blems, but you could. Spyderco puts a notch near the ricasso. This maker just puts an obvious X to denote their 2nds:

Makes a lot of sense

I pre-ordered a DEK3 with Magnacut + the satin finish so take a blem and let the belt take care of it! Everyone is leg humping magnacut in the GKD but I’m waiting for yours Nate. I know the steel will perform just fine for my use but it’s the DEK3 pattern specifically that I want the magnacut on.

I don’t get to gamble on anything often so I’m rolling the dice!

We normally get some losses in any project but we're looking at a very high scrap rate for these due to a cosmetic issue that developed with the steel after heat treat. So much so, that there will be none available in Friday sales and we will be stretched just fulfilling the pre-order.
Nathan I am sorry that these are messing you around...cosmetically. However the Magnacut performance as per your video is brilliant and absolutely fantastic for a stainless.

Your Delta 3V protocol is brilliant but don't let its exceptional performance detract from the Magnacut which is also looking absolutely fabulous for a stainless. It's just a shame that you have had some cosmetic issues. I am sure that as time goes by you will overcome that.

I will stick with my Magnacut order as I never intend to whack my knife through bolt or nails. And judging from your video the knife is plenty strong for anything I would ever want to cut.

It is also gratifying to me that you never sell your blems. If you did they will only come back to haunt you or devalue your knives by having people ask if it's a real unit or a blem.

Thank you for keeping CPK the premium industry standard brand it is. 😎

If...... He changes up from the original, like no top swedge, or something.
They wouldn't get confused with the actual production ones.....
People would Buy them as Users. Something ugly to cut up chum.....
Hence "Bait Knife" or Master Bait knife as previously suggested. :0

Now that I have three magnacut bladed knives that I am using a lot I am happy that I changed to Delta 3V on my DEK3 preorder. Magnacut is a really nice stainless steel but it's not delta 3V. (The edge feels fragile in comparison and stainless is never my preference.) I know the magnacut DEK3s are going to be crazy collector's items now but I wanted a user anyway. And I still have a magnacut CPK DEK1 on preorder...
