Theft is rampant in the airlines and mailing your stuff also has it's risks. I highly recomend buying a GPS locator /tracker to track your stuff in real time from your laptop or cell phone . I wish I would have known about these years ago when all my knives were stolen en route to a knife show . It would have saved me a ton of $, headache , and embarassment . Just put one in your knife case (like a pelican) and put non TSA approved heavy locks on it and ship your package or check your luggage . If your stuff is ever lost ,missing or stolen you can track your package yourself directly to it's location. These are cool as hell !http://www.pimall.com/nais/tracking.html

Cool enough, Thanks Ken. I have another use for it that I was wondering how I was going to be able to track some items.

Really depends on how large her purse is. My daughters is big and deep and full of junk. She will never know.:D

I went on a guided goose hunt last winter and the guide had over 300 expensive decoys he left out in the fields for the season. I asked him about them getting stolen and he told me he has gps trackers mounted in a few of them. He said he never had any of his decoys stolen, but another guide friend of his did and the police were able to quickly catch the crooks. Great idea.

I'm not so sure about such a device in airline checked baggage because it uses cellular phone. You're supposed to turn off cell phones during take-off and landing.

When traveling by air with valuables, keep in mind that you have the right to witness the inspection of your baggage and then to lock it with whatever lock you like. Sometimes, the airline clerk will say no. This is because they are busy and get incentives to keep the lines moving. Dealing with you and your request will slow them down. But, just insist.

No major airport has been built in the US since the new security regimes went into place, so no airport is well-set to deal with the new security and every airport is making due in their own way. This means that the procedure you will need to follow will vary from airport-to-airport. So, plan to arrive early to allow extra time for this.

This is not fool-proof by any means. But luggage theft is mostly opportunistic and so if you make your bag harder to get into than the next, chances are that thieves will just rob the next bag.
