Make sure your spark bucket isn't frozen solid BEFORE you have a hot piece of steel in your hand.
I just looked like a loony toon out there.

Haha. Been there. My shop is only heated when I fire up the nibco. Like a Benny Hill skit.

Quench bucket frozen??? You must be too far north! I don't like cold weather..... and cold weather is defined as anything below 40ºF :)

We are sitting at 20° here right now. Just went to the shop to start the oven and had to fire up the forge. I use the forge lately more for heat then forging lol

I used to put RV waterline antifreeze in my quench tank.

Now, my newly built shop is well insulated and has in floor radiant heat.... lol.... in yo face!

Its only -25 Celsius in Calgary right now... Going to have to start re-filling and cycling water buckets again... Sigh.

Rick, Rick, Rick, gloating and showing off is very poor form. Plus it makes me VERY jealous.

The Canadians wait for -40F to do the instant snow trick. It works at -25 and below, but it works best at -40.
Bring a pot of water to boiling.Qquickly take it outside and throw the water up in the air. It won't rain scalding water on you ... it will explode into snow.

I've heard of spit crackling in the air at -40ºF, but hadn't thought of the snow trick. I'd like to see that..... on video :) I think the coldest weather I've ever been in is around -10ºF, rode motorcycle around the block on ice roads. Wasn't all "that" bad, ice frozen so hard it wasn't really slick. Got back home, put bike in garage, started packing to head back South..... well, maybe not right then but I was back South pretty soon. Now I say anywhere north of I-10 interstate hwy is too far north!

I have quite literally had pee freeze before it hits the ground... mind you, I had to arch it really high. My back still hurts.

To the best of my recollection, I the coldest weather that i have ever been in was somewhere below -10F a few times in Kentucky and Pennsylvania and maybe as low as -20F once in PA. Ask me why I live in Florida? LOL The coldest I have ever seen it in Tampa Bay was 18F and half of the cars in the city wouldn't start that morning.

It feels like summer is already here... living in the other half of the planet :D

I went to Killington, VT to go skiing one winter. It was -40˚ with snow drifts halfway up the side of the house we were renting. I'm going south as soon as I can work out the details.

Very much why I moved from Colorado to Arizona. Tired of freezing my fingers off. Tired of runny nose while working. Tired of holding freezing cold steel, tools, ect.

Working in shorts in december is very very nice :D
