Well I think this thread was worth doing if only for the fact that I got to see Stabman's creation NICE WORK !
I had to think about this question for a while.
First off I thought about a cataract knife (from the Sherlock Holmes story; not as sick as it first sounds) You know . . . very important, precise, made for highly paid work . . .
nah . . . thats not me.
Then I thought about my little super small retractable Xacto . . . saves the day when nothing else is sharp enough . . . able to do art projects in a single bound . . . unique and weird . . . yah we are getting closer but . . . still not me.
Then the marking knives for precision woodworking lay out. Think dovetail joints that fit together like they were machined on a mill but even better. Cabinets with drawers so precisely fitted that you close one drawer and another opens from the piston like effect of the pressure of the air moved by the drawer. yah . . . BUT which one ? ? ? ? I mean we have left and and right hand layout knives . . .
well there is that one that works both ways (double edged) goes both ways . . .
yeeeeesssss BUT I dont bat for both teams (if you know what I mean) . . . so nooooooo
still not quite me
OK . . . ! I GOT IT !
The Japanese kitchen knife. Thin and light yes but very effective on a daily basis. Now in the west living the life of one with vague ancestry in England or Ireland but with very distant roots in Japan (with my appreciation of Zen this must be true). Able to do detail work and minutia but a good worker without a lot of fuss and silly display of excess power and bravado. Flawed yes . . . my ferrule is chronically loose when I am dried out but once Ive had a drop (of water) things firm right up and I go the distance and more. A good looker for being such a cheep date aaaaaaannnnnnnd . . .
Im always there at dinner time.
