If you were buying a heat treat oven?

Ed - I understand what you are saying. My real concern with the conventional off-the-shelf heat treat ovens is this:

Size of chamber, and efficiency of heating.

I regularly (1 out of 6) heat-treat blades over 18" and don't like what I see in the larger units...that they are about as wide as they are deep. Seems like a huge waste of energy/time. Especially for the part-time knifemaker who might do only one blade at a time, once a week.

Does Paragon has an oven more suited to knifemakers...or would they consider making one?

Darrel - I'll gladly pay for quality/durability...as long as the chamber is sized appropriately. I would much rather be heating my blades in an oven, than "over the flame"...

Dan,
That is what I like about the Paragon.
  • KM-14D: 14 ½” long, 5 ½” wide, and 4 ¼” high
  • KM-24D: 24” long, 5 ½” wide, and 4 ¼” high
  • KM-36D: 36” long, 5 ½” wide, and 4 ¼” high
  • KM-45D: 48” long, 5 ½” wide, and 4 ¼” high
This is really efficent.
They also sell the big bad chambers that are wide and deep if you want one.
I will be getting the KM-24D like Ed has.
It is very efficent and I can heat treat a 23.5 inch blade or a little more corner to corner in a very small chamber that wont cost me big money to get up to heat.
We will have them in staochk at Knifekits.com is a few weeks.
We will have the 9 (not shown here) 14 and 24 for our stock. We will take special orders also for the other ovens and ovens that you want special items on.
We are a paragon dealer.

That why I chose the paragon. They are made specifically for knfemakers. The doors have no latch and stay close via counteweight and the elements shut off automatically via a switch (you can see it in the pic above). Call them and they can build whatevr config you want. They do not stock them an build each by order, so wait times can be a few weeks...

Ok.....I see it on the website now...I was looking under Heat-treat ovens...didn't bother looking under "knife making ovens".....

Looks like the right size afterall...:foot:

We get used to seeing what we purchase as an expense. New Cars loose money quick, food is consumed etc.
But when it comes to equipment, I look at it as an investment. I purchased my Paragon used many years ago, due to its quality I believe that I could sell it today for what I paid for it or more.

Same with my power hammers and most of the rest of the knife making equipment, if we are lucky and pick the right stuff, it doesn't loose value.

Paragon for me. I have been sitting behind the owner of Paragon at the Blade Show for about five years now. Got to know him pretty well. He is a great guy and makes a great product. Wished all my machinery was as good as my oven.
