If you were really going to abuse a folder, who could take the pain the best?

Of the knives I currently own, I think my Hinderer Firetac, DMKnives Instigator, and RRF would stand up!! I also think my Sebbies would too
I have plenty of first hand experience with Sebbies. They are fine knives but theres no way they would hold up to this kind of abuse.

I am surprised to hear the Buck Striders being mentioned. Are they are strong as the Striders? I mean costs had to have been cut somehwere... where/how did they cut the costs? Are the Bucks as strong? Is the difference in strength, fit/finish, materials? The Bucks seem to all used ATS34. What's on the Striders? I'd love to hear comments form someone familiar with both.

I think I would go with something like this. Tanto, sabre grind blade, flat ground edge, thick framelock, and CPM3V steel. I don't know the dimensions, but if the blade thickness is over .180, can't get much stronger than this, if you want a functional folding knife.

Strider switched to BG-42 and S30V recently. Striders could be more expensive because they are custom made. Their fit&finish also could be better, but personally I can't imagine a situation, where a Buck Strider 880 breaks or chips, and for example an SNG or SMF stays intact. I could be wrong though.

Edited because of a typo.

Well, I have a Buck/Strider mini-tanto, and I can imagine it'd do the job. Would it come out of the task without damage? Nope. Neither would the full-blood Strider. For really abusive tasks, I'd go with the GB if I only carried one knife on me, or a Extrama Ratio if I was going to carry another knife that would cut/slice better. The primary difference is going to be in the thickness of the liners (.085? on the B/S vs. .100 on the Strider), the pivot (regular on the B/S vs. Bull pivot on Strider), steel (BG42 for early B/S- ATS34 later- vs. BG42 or S30V on the Strider), and the fit and finish (Good Buck finish w/rough G10 vs. Strider's more "user" finish with rounded G10).

Honestly, Buck/Striders that are styled after the AR/GB are MUCH closer to the real thing than the ones styled after the SNG/SMF. Of course, my preference is to have a GB.

That's the key to it. All of them have good steel. That's not their limiting factor. The architecture is what they rely on, and blade geometry.

From what I've heard the Cold Steel Ultralock is the strongest lock if you can get over the 440A blade.
Now since money is no object and I'm a dreamer a 5" piece of INFI on a Stider handle with a Cold Steel Ultralock mmmmmmmm.
Pinch me or punch me I think I'm dreaming.

talonturbo did say that his gb's blade was undmaged after stabbing the fender 6+ times...

Well, let me clarify what I mean by damage: The blade would be altered- either cosmetically or structurally. THAT's what I mean by "damage."

Stabbing a fender is not particularly abusive, especially if you go in straight. Even Cold Steel's AUS-8A knives can do it.

Digging and prying is much more damaging than stabbing.

I happen to be a huge Peter Atwood fan!! THAT is a fantastic knife!!

After the German magazine comparrison of the Extrema Ratio and the Strider GB, I think the GB is just outstanding. I mean, yeah, some of the steel snapped off (a very TINY amount at the tip), but they were pushing it through a steel plate. Overall, I thought it was a good example of what the knives can take, and if it can take all that I don't see what I would really do that it wouldn't be able to handle.

No one has mentioned the Lonewolf Harsey. I've never handled one, but I thought I had read about their extreme pivot size / strength. Am I thinking of a different knife?

I'm not sure if you're thinking of a different knife, but I've heard WAY too many stories about Lone Wolf QC on the Harsey folder to take a chance on it. Some of the batches coming out a while ago were just plain bad. I could be wrong, but I believe New Graham actually stopped selling Lone Wolf knives for a time because of this.

I would buy a whole bunch of cheap crappy $5.00 folders, and carry them in a small burlap sack over your shoulder, that way, you just keep throwing them away when they get dull or break lol.

Yeah, I heard the same thing, and wouldn't touch one with a 10 ft. poll!

I've heard those Greco Falcon folders were pretty hellbent for stout also?

What I personally think is the more important question though is this:

Which wrecking bar should I choose to open my mail, cut up my sandwiches, and cut cord with? a nice compact little twelve inch flat bar, or one of the longer round bars? Should I get the one with a nail puller on it, a thick wedge, or a spike?
