And you had to use it everyday, for hard prying, cutting everything (wood, paper, cardboard, rope), which of these would you chose?

Cold Steel Vaquero Grande

John Greco Falcon

Benchmade 940

Thanks Guys.

And no other suggestions! :)

none of the above. they are folders, which are not intended for prying of any sort.
peace.

Benchmade TSEK for a folder (axis lock), but you'd be better off with a small fixed blade like the Fehrman Thru Hiker or a Busse Assault Shaker. These could both be carried almost as easily as a folder with the proper rig.

I've got both the Vaquero Grande and the Greco Falcon. The Benchmade doesn't come close to either of them. Except it's prettier. :)

I would rate the VG a better cutter and the Greco an overall tougher knife, although tougher than the VG is almost hard to say. I've used it in the woods clearing brush over a few years and it is practically indestructible, slicing or chopping. But I'd be less inclined to pry with it than with the Greco.

Anyone claiming that a folder can't match a fixed blade for prying has NEVER held a Greco folder. I've got two: the Raptor also, the Greco hawksbill. Like the Falcon, it came with a tough but relatively blunt edge, which on the Raptor, I narrowed considerably. This takes some doing -- you need diamond for it, or you'll grind away forever :)

I agree with Esav. The BM makes some tough knives, but the 940 is a gent's knife. Personally, I would take Greco's folders - they are built like tanks, with massive, beefy, all steel framelocks. I don't have a hard time reprofiling - just use a coarse stone.

The 940 is hardly just a gents knife, being much stouter than many of the so-called "tactical" folders by virtue of its solid handles, Axis lock, and strong tip, but the Greco is by far the stoutest of those three knives, with steel frame lock, and a thicker blade. It is also the least efficient cutter, as a result of that thicker blade/grind.
Never owned a VG (I've had the Greco, and have a 940Ti in my pocket right now), having only handled one, but it would probably do best on the cardboard, and especially the rope cutting, while being next to useless for prying due to a weak tip and lack of handle rigidity, or wood because of the exaggerated recurve, and serrations.
Since I don't do "hard prying" every day, or most any day, and particularly not with a folder, I'd take the 940 as the most comfortable to carry and use, and the best compromise in blade style. If I did do alot of prying, the Greco would be the only one of the three I would be comfortable doing it with.

I would choose the cold steel srk, I have put mine to all these test and it came out all right and never let me down.Srk is one good blade and can do most everything it chops pretty well for it's size.

Since your limiting it to those three, I'll cooperate and pick one of those 3 instead of being like the rest of these guys ;)
I'd pick the Greco falcon. It is obviously the most stout of the 3, I've heard a lot of good things about his knives, and that is a heck of a price for a semi custom folder. At that price you can beat the tar out of it, it will probably take whatever you give it, but if it ever does give out you'll more than likely have gotten your moneys worth out of it already.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but
I don't don't think you're doing a fair comparison.
the CS is strong, but because it's so long, if you pry, you're going to put a lot of leverage on the pivot.
Try a smaller CS, and look at the Bowie or tanto point if you really want a strong folder.

Cold Steel Recon Scout...That one is pretty close to being a sharpened pry-bar.:D.

Greco Falcon all the way. I got one after they went on sale, and even after reading tons of stuff on here about how tough they are. When I got it and held it, it's even tougher than I had expected it would be. I'm positive I could never break it in normal use, or even some abuse, it would take some real effort and work break this knife.

Becker Crewman BK-10, fixed blade.

Spyderco Para-Military w/ plain edge, folder.

2nd folder is the Victorinox One Hand Trekker.

Collecter

The Greco Falcon got my vote. You can beat it for quality and affordability. That's one knife that will follow you to hell and take you back! :D

Hey pukko, some of us can't carry busses and swamp rats in public *sigh* :)

right on. :)
then go for the greco. not the vaquero, because (as was already mentioned) it's too long to hold up to much prying without messing up the pivot.
however, i'd still recommend a small fixed blade over a folder for the type of chores you're describing. try a fallkniven wm1, a bark river mini-canadian or mikro-canadian, or perhaps an anza. i personally love pocket-sized fixed blades...
peace.
