If you you had one tough knife...

Take a close look at the Buck Strider Tarani, available in either plain or serrated edge, at NGK. Strong point, great ergos and blade that is pretty close to the 'pry bar' rating.

Dammit! I just emailed Greco, and he said they didn't have any more. *sigh* I kind if like pukkoman's suggestion of a small fixed blade, any other suggestions (folders included)? Must be under a $100.

Thanks.

PS: gud4u, the buck strider is a little expensive (for now), but I'd get one if I could. :(

right on. :)
then go for the greco. not the vaquero, because (as was already mentioned) it's too long to hold up to much prying without messing up the pivot.
however, i'd still recommend a small fixed blade over a folder for the type of chores you're describing. try a fallkniven wm1, a bark river mini-canadian or mikro-canadian, or perhaps an anza. i personally love pocket-sized fixed blades...
peace.

A fallkniven wm1 (from website selling it) "More than half the world’s population is female - and yet Model WM is probably the first sheath knife designed from scratch to suit the hands and requirements of women."

Man are you tryin' to insult me? :D

(I'm 6'4 and 185 lbs and I can palm a basketball, I need something bigger :) )

Based upon this I went with Whisper myself. I'll need to see if it can compete with my 110.

JHB,
You can't lose with either! :D Greco is easy to carry, forget the sheath & just slip it in your backpocket next to your wallet!
Be safe,
Jim

Thanks for the advice Jim, I should have the Whisper by Tuesday and will give a try.

It'll be hard to put down the 110 I've been carrying the Cabela's version up until I got one in from the Custom Shoppe. But I've had my eye on the Whisper for awhile now and decided to breakdown and buy it.

Good choice on the Whisper. I think you'll find it doesn't compete with the 110, especially your higher-end versions. They all have their separate place in the rotation :D

For hard prying...............Hard to beat a crowbar.
For chopping..................An axe or a cleaver serve me better.
For cutting everything.....Cardboard cutter with disposable blade.
For showing off............I use my knives. :D

Jim -

The Whisper (thanks go out to fulloflead) got here today and took your recommendation for carry. Works like a champ.

Esav -

Now that the knife is in hand I see what you mean and not matter what will certainly enjoy using both.

Thanks to all for encouraging me to do my part to keep the economy healthy.

If I could only have one knife, I would choose the Cold Steel Trail Master with the Carbon V blade. This is one of the toughest fixed blade knives I have found for the price.
