If your favorite knife that you own is in S30V and you came across one for sale in 20CV, would u buy it again to "upgrade" or not worth the $?

That "upgrade" would only give you about 5% better edge retention. Hardly a difference.

I don’t think that I would spend that much money for just a steel upgrade. If you are REALLY unhappy with S30v then maybe.

I probably would. It definitely depends on how much I like the knife. I was in a similar situation a few years ago, my favorite daily carry knife was the Benchmade 495 Vector, which had black G10 handles and S30V steel. It's an awesome knife, with great action and amazing cutting geometry. Then they released it in 20CV, with a green handle with bolsters, and an updated blade shape and grind. The .10" blade with a hollow grind and 20CV steel makes it a laser cutter. It was an instant buy for me.

But I've also found myself in the opposite situation. I have 3 Southern Grind Spider Monkeys, all with different handle colors, but I've never felt the need to upgrade from S35VN to any of the other steels they've offered in past runs.

Maybe if it was in Magnacut, say, a 110 with stag grips and nickle silver bolsters. But truth be told, it would be pretty difficult to tell the difference in real world performance.

I would, and have, duplicated a knife due to it‘s newly found availability in Magnacut. 20CV, M390, 204P…..No.

No, I would put my favorite knife in my pocket and take my beautiful wife to dinner with that 300. Happy wife, favorite knife, happy life
Better idea. Turn on the charm. Get her a hallmark card and a happy meal. Have the knife sent to an alternate location. With the money you save on dinner, expedite the shipping. Happy knife, happy life!

I'm not the type who has duplicates. So if I were happy with my original knife, I'd just keep it and not worry about spending more money on something I already have one of when I, personally, don't really use my knives hard enough to tell that much of a difference.

Steel type doesn't come into play much with my purchases. Microtech rotates their flavor of steel out all the time, and I can't tell one bit of difference. About the only time I seek out a knife based on steel is if it has a real different philosophy of use. I plan on getting a magnacut Spyderco for the beach next summer, for example.

Definitely would need to be a bigger jump for me, something in like 440c/420 7/8CR I would upgrade if I loved the knife.

But a jump from S30V to even Magnacut probably not unless they tweaked the knife some other way.
