Give it some time - it will get very smooth.

My first one was very stiff / tight when I first got it - it took a while before it loosened up. The washers need to get polished and mated to the blade, and the ceramic ball has to break in the tang of the blade.

I just bought another one (I sold the first one I had) and it is very stiff.
