If...............

I agree about getting one with multiple blades, but for carrying I'd like that Zulu.

I would spend a lot of time going through the Bose thread here and the pictures on boseknives.com. I really like his jigged bone and that cloud shield he does.

a big honkin' toenail:D dunno why but maybe in ebony, long pull, swedge, shield, an old school toenail ...
or i'd realistically tell mr. bose to make whatever the heck he wanted and enjoy the consequences:D:thumbup:
as an aside somebody (manufacturers, etc) needs to offer more toenails... kinda slim pickens:(

Congrats on you turn coming up

Wow, I get to choose a Reese Bose!!!

Rogers Wharncliffe Whittler http://boseknives.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=447

I believe that the knife in those images is the one I "won" at the Blade Show (2007) and subsequently traded for the sowbelly pictured above. :p

Just goes to show... different strokes for different folks. While I certainly admire the whittler and its delicate beauty, I truly enjoy the sowbelly even moreso for its robust blades and the sense of continuity with classic knives from our nation's past history.

It's alotta "If ' s ", thanks for all your replies.
And no,right now,I do not have this delemna, but I'll say again,I struggle with this choice.
I guess,it's because I like so many knives & so many of Tony & Reese Bose' knives, are really appealing & "to die for" ,in the eye of the knife nut.

I wonder,if the warncliffe trapper ,could be "tweaked" a bit,making the wancliffe,into a modified warncliffe ?

How about,an equal end whittler, shadow, has anyone ever seen one ? I have seen pictures of a shadow stockman, once,by Tony .

There's a lot of great choices here listed & quick, too.I really appreciate the enthusiasm,Thanks,
-Vince :)

I would pick a 4" Millennium Trapper on CPM 440v or D-2 stock. Handle material stag or ivory. For a shield I would go with a federal, double bomb or ballock any of which would look good on this knife. Not many of these have been made with the wharncliffe blade.

I'd go with a Balloon whittler, steel not that much of an issue, and "old bone" because regardless or it's origin, it GORGEOUS!

I like a knife like that,too Durwood.

As much as the bone,Ivory & stag hafted Bose knives are perfect & gorgeous,I lean towards the shadow pattern.
I think,though,Reese could build any pattern,in a shadow

Great Question! Did you get the "Call"???

If Reese called, I would order a 4" closed, 3-Blade Stockman done in ATS 34. I would have a wharncliff blade for the second blade, and a Pen blade for the end-small blade. I would have SS diagonal caps with a Fed. Shield, Topped with Ivory Scales!

When you get This one, and for what ever the reason, don't like it, Please Send it my way! :D ;)

Let US know what you think!

Here's a related question to Vince's. If you did get the call, which steel would you choose for your knife? I'm curious as to whether there is a consensus on which steel the Boses do best.

I would have him build me a Mammoth Ivory Swell Center Moose or an ivory Beaver Tail.

Kent & all,no,I did not get the call.
Kent,I like your idea on your knife
I prefer stainless,I like ATS-34
I bet the CPM 154 is good & I have had Bose knives in 440V ,too
I've never had a Bose in any steel, that was not,a great cutting, edge holding blade.
I keep leaning towards a shadow pattern,though.

1-Self, what do I want the knife for?
2-Reese, this is what I want the knife for, go crazy.

A copy of the knife my grandparents gave me: the Holley Wharncliffe Whittler.

Plain white bone scales.
Length closed: ~3 1/2 inches. (Up to 4 in closed is acceptable, but that's larger than the original.)
Carbon Steel blades.
One Wharncliffe blade, two pen blades.
Aggressive snap.

In a heartbeat. Sign me up.

4" Barlow, spear and pen, pen on the pile side with a lefty nail nick, swedges on both, SS liners & integral bolsters.

Edit: Black jigged bone, bomb shield.
