IL is about to screw its people even more

Augh! WTF?? Has there been some rash of drive-by-one-hand-knifings? What the hell would even motivate someone to introduce a law like this?

...any assisted opening knife, which with the assistance of any internal mechanism can be easily opened with one hand by the flick of the wrist or by manipulating any portion of the blade...
Illinois: government of the sheeple, by the sheeple, and for the the sheeple. :thumbdn:

So the way I read this. Most of my knives will be Illegal as long as I can open them one handed, assisted or not. I was thinking I will ether have to break the law or start selling of my collection to get some boring knives,,Augh No more Zt 301, SMF, RAM Flipper, not even my Alias II,.. Gawd!!!!!! I could go on and on I am just freaking out. NO More EMERSON. I think the only thing I have that I could carry is my SAK or Gerber Multi Tool.
They are forcing me to be a common scum bag criminal.

Post this under the knife laws sub and ask for other IL folks to contact their representatives. Probably won't work, but it's worth a stab (no pun intended).

That truly sucks, if passed.

Illinois has been a big red "F" for gun and knife enthusiasts since I can remember. Kansas is not far behind in my opinion. Both are borderline commy states if you ask me. I celebrated with a great deal of zest when we moved away from Illinois in the mid 80s. I'd have never lived in corn field county USA anyways if it hadn't been for the Air Force stationing me at Scott AFB. ( A base I didn't even pick or know of until they picked it for me. ) I couldn't stand it then but now its totally out of the question. I won't even drive through it anymore. I will take the extra time to go around it and enjoy a state I support and anyone that votes to put a guy from Illinois in the white house is asking for nothing but trouble for all of us that love either guns or knives or both.

EDIT: This thread belongs in the political forum IMO> I thought that was where it was but I just noticed it is the Kershaw forum.

From reading this part of the text:

or any assisted opening knife, which with the assistance of any internal mechanism can be easily opened with one hand by the flick of the wrist or by manipulating any portion of the blade;

I'm tempted to think that a non-assisted knife would be okay. It doesn't say just any knife that can be opened with hand, flicked, etc., but any assisted opening knife that can be opened in such ways. If you have a liner lock that you can flick open with enough force, there's no internal mechanism helping you do that, it's all manual.

Still, a pretty bad way for things to go in any case.

I agree; it seems that they almost went out of their way to write this so that one hand manual opening knives would still be OK.

Well that just ABSOLUTELY BLOWS :mad::mad:. I couldn't see a date when this was submited. Possible fallout from the Texas ruling already :(.

I just posted a link to this in the Kershaw Forum....lets see if Thomas voices in....I will do the same at Buck and Sog forums

Also, the wording essentially forbids any flipper or even a thumbstud lockback.

I already feel safer.

I just emailed the bill's creator:

Jil Tracy, Illinois House Rep., 93rd District.

jiltracy@jiltracy.com

I was courteous, but pointed out the fallacy of criminalizing law-abiding citizens based on the design of the tool they carry. The bill is ludicrous.

Of course, this is the state that banned AirSoft toys and slingshots, too. So this bill will probably pass, and I'll never see Chicago again. (But at least Chicagoans can sleep at night, knowing how safe they are.)

:rolleyes:

Filed January 10th, 2008 according the Illinois General Assembly website. http://tinyurl.com/5yhhy3

The bill's creator's website is: http://www.jiltracy.com/

Criminalizing citizens based on the design of the tools they carry. Truly clueless, she is. She's good Republican, too. :rolleyes:

i spoke with KIM in Jill Tracy's office and ..
that bill is DEAD! it did not make it to committy!
that wording was put in by law enforcement officers {{ LEO's }}

so the bill is dead but one must always keep up on and fight silly laws!
in conversation with Kin, it come up also that to make a one handed knife agenst the law is to deny a handcapped person a reasonable accomdation under the Americians with Dissabilitys Act !!!
this could be used as a logical arguement to many restictive knife carry laws!!

Excellent!
