I'm a little bit dumbfounded....

There is a lot of steel on the place in the form of old files and old steel tools. But there are also tons of steel in the form of old farm equipment, along with some I-beams.

The farm equipment is made up of, mostly, old disks and plows. Do you think any of that type of steel would be any good for knifemaking?

Andy

IIRC, 1095 was developed for plows and harrows.

mmmm, the only downside is that there's no electrical lines within 40 miles of the place ;)

and no alarm system. what was the address again? really? thanx!

and you lucky bastid :> get it ALL appraised, figure out what you don't need, sell it for space, get insurance...

and your slab. maybe you want to rig your "roof" with i-beams and running block and tackle so you can do anything from pull an engine, to hoist and move around anvils, milling machines, or stuff. why wreck your back?

and ventilate ventilate ventilate!

Ahhh, but you forget the watchdog!! My wife is out there with her Glock 20, Winchester Defender, and her khuk!!!

:D

You know, there are four tractors, and a midsize dump truck out there which will likely need work done on them at times. I'm not much of a mechanic, but that will give me ample opportunity to learn quite a bit!

Good idea about the insurance, definitely a good one. We'll do that as soon as we close.

I won't have to rig up the I beams and stuff, since there is a shop crane, in the box, waiting for me to set 'er up!

Good ideas, keep them coming, I really appreciate it.

Andy

The guy with the most tools wins. Sounds like you won big time. Home Depot will be saddened by your luck.

I wouldn't overlook the POSSIBILITY of some type of underground sanctuary well hidden. I'd be looking for any sign of exhaust system, trap doors etc.
I think the treasure search would be neat......

God bleeses us in ways we don't understand...Enjoy and CONGRATS!!!

And put me down as a customer for one of your knives!!!

ALL THE BEST, Wally...by the way, can I borrow a circular saw?

I have a few buddies who cruise the local neighborhoods on weekends looking for garage sales. They usually can't pass up a good buy on car parts or tools even if they already have plenty of them. Me, I collect wood. Always have my eye open for turning something I find into a knife handle.

Congrats on the new property. 104 acres? You make me very envious. I'm planning on doing the same when I retire.

Thanks! My wife and I are still pretty young, in our 40's. We have been looking for a place where we can spread out, so to speak, and where we would have place fo rfamily or friends if the need arose....

We think this place would be ideal, and the shop and other things which came with the property were just too.... right, to pass up.

Andy

When you're ready, give me a holler. I can help you with the knifemaking and the house (architect).

In the meantime...let me take my place in the GREEN LINE OF ENVY!!!

:p

Yep!.....for my brother-in-law...built it last year...planning another one.

Lots of work...but rewarding.
