Well i think i have come into some good fortune finally. My father inlaw has a freind who is a knife nut like me. I have never met the man but i did talk to him on the phone. Anyway he is also into survival and he has sent me via my father inlaw 10 vhs tapes on survival by some man named Ron Hood. From what i have seen of the tapes seems to be great. Its on stuff like shelter building, making fire, navigation, traps all kinds of stuff. I also got a tape on wild cooking. There is lots of info on knifes also. Just thought i would share my good fortune.

Ron's videos are really good and extremely popular. Ron has a following that is growing and growing but still not mainstream like Bear Grylls or Les Stroud. It is a shame because he does know his material and presents it well.

A while back, a friend gave me all of his DVD's, almost 18 in all I believe. Just remember, a tape or video can't replace dirt time so get out there and practice skills. Get someone to show you first hand and critique you along the way.

Congrats on the good fortune. Let us know how you like the tapes.

Im watching them now. I love them. It is the best info i have ever seen on survival. Right now he is showing how to make weapons. I never have dreamed of some of the great ideas he is giving. Unbelivable.

I hope you can watch Ron Hood's video about the trip he, his cute wife, and some other people took down (or up?) the Amazon to spend some time with a remote Indian tribe in the jungle. It will make you realize, if you didn't already, why so many ordinary, poor, "backward" people around the world value a machete so highly in their efforts to scrape out a living. A machete and a single-barrel shotgun go a long way toward helping them to have a comparatively comfortable life. Other tools are nice, but those two are the basics. It's not that different in many places we think of as civilized.

I have almost the complete set myself. I like the videos because they remind me of camping while i cant. Ron does present a lot of great information in his series. has anyone seen the urban survival vids?

Uh.. guys, Ron makes his living off these videos. If someone gives ORIGINAL vids as a gift, that great! But.... making copies for people, aside from being illegal, is really uncool.

Think of investing in them, and he will be able to continue making new and interesting ones.

Segaman22, pay attention to what MacClint wrote. Making copies of commercial tapes/DVDs is copyright infringement.

Ron and Karen Hood are professional survival instructors and work hard at producing those products. They make their living selling those tapes and DVDs. There is no difference in copying their product and giving it to someone else, than going into Blockbuster and stealing a tape or DVD.

Don't do it.

That is a great gift. The Hoods videos are the best, lots of great info and Ron and Karen are great people!

SEGAMAN22 - " IM sorry, i didnt know that. I wont do that........"

Good for you, Segaman22. You're being an ethical man.

On the other hand, its a pretty good teaser and leaves you wanting more.

I sure as hell would like to own the complete set after seeing the sampler on Y-tube.

BTW what breed of dog is that?

Ron knows about the post on Youtube, he told us about them on his forum.

His vids are great full of info from a stand up guy

goat.

I just looked at two of those videos on YouTube, and I believe I'll be purchasing some Hoods Woods videos as a result.

I've never heard of that fist technique for telling how long to sundown. I'm guessing there's a lot those videos have to teach "this old dog." :D

Thanks, BH. I took a look at his forum and couldn't find any mention of them. I know in the past he's been very adamant about going after pirates and such. (He's not particularly thrilled about video rentals either, but realizes that that is not a prohibited act.)

I didn't watch the clips, but from having viewed all of the DVDs, Rons dogs are Akitas.
