I think I am going to buy 2 wheels, just wondering what size yall use the most?

What exactly are you talking about, contact wheels, drive wheels, idler/tensioner wheels, platen wheels?

If your talking about for slack belt mode I dont use mine like I said at knife dogs the metal wheels are better and if there is a problem ill just change the bearing.

Dixie, I could be wrong, but I think he's talking about the small wheel attachment for a KMG. So they would be contact wheels.

Bama, I have only the 1" wheel, and it comes in handy. It makes a nice curve that fits the fingers well. Here's a radius ground with the 1" wheel (at the index finger):

If I had to buy another, I'd go for a smaller, say 3/4" or 1/2" wheel for things like large choils.

Bama,
On one machine I have Three small wheels to chose from. This is the order I use them starting with the most used first.
1/2"
1.5"
4"
My Drive wheel on my other machine is 3.5 and I also use it.
I have used the idler wheel at times.
If the belt rides on it and I find a safe way to use it it gets used.

I have a 1" and a 2". I use both but the 1" quite a bit more. It's handy for getting in small radiuses.

However, that is even too big sometimes like under a finger guard so I just ordered a 9/16".

on the small wheel, i mostly use 1/2 and 3/4". i changed out the top metal wheel of the platen attachment to a 2" contact wheel for use while grinding gentle curves without having to change tooling arms.

i have a 3/4 and am thinking auot the 1 inch for super hollow razors grinds
i too have a rubber 2 inch on the top of my platen

Bama
I use 1/2" and 1" the most also have a 2" mounted on top of my flat platen.

3/4" for my small wheel attachment. I may add some more small wheels but,
I use a 2" contact for the top wheel of my flat platen, and a 3" wheel on the bottom. That makes a lot of possible radius's.

Are these straight drop-ins or do you need to make adjustments to the platen for this?

the other contact wheels bolt to the platen bracket in place of the wheel. No other modification

That makes sense for the 2" wheel, but when a 3" is added, wouldn't that pull the belt away from the platen?

Thanks,
