I ebay'd a Kershaw Spec Bump not too long ago, and the winner was from germany, but im afraid ive never shipped there before. What should i be doing to prepare the package for customs or whatever? I plan on using USPS because their the only company that doesnt charge 30+$ that i can find.

Thanks in advance

It's really no big deal. I've shipped a few fixed blades international and it was no problem. Just box up the knife as you normally would. You'll have to fill out a small customs form at the Post Office, but it's a piece of cake.

imho ya outta know what the import regs are for knives into germany and have an understanding on whos responsible in case of customs confiscation or other import problems, if there are problems whos responsible? if its an AO knife i have no idea if they are legal or not for instance,

usually no probs BUT probs can and do occur so get an agreement beforehand.

just my .02.

Just send it to Germany. The german custom will check it anyway and inform the buyer who normally has to pick it up at the custom office. Sometimes UPS delivers it right to your door.

if the customer wants it, you can declare it with a value less 40$.
that helps your customer saving money

One would think you would be wisest NOT to declare a false value.

Falsifying customs documents isn't the best idea.......

While you may be thinking you're a good guy saving the buyer $$, you could be heading for trouble.

My $0.02:cool:

My last shipment to Germany, (a Kershaw Steven Seagal folder) the customer
requested that I label the customs document as "Gift" and "Japanese garden knife". It did get hung up at customs for awhile, but no extra charges were levied and the customer did finally receive his knife in perfect condition. My other international customers have usually asked for the declaration to be labeled "camping tools".
Best option, ask your customer how to label it, then do so exactly as they request. But be honest.

I usually use Global Priority mail. To Canada its $4.25 and to other places like Germany and Thailand among others its $5.25 current rates. Most get there in 6 to 14 days.

Suggest you go to the USPS website and read some of the customs literature regarding shipments to Germany of any item that could be potentially categorized as a weapon.

Yes, discuss it with the customer. You can declare any value, just make sure your customer understands the consequences. Low value - low insurance payment if the knife gets lost.

PS: I always receive "gifts" with about 20.00 USD value + "camp tools" because such description does not attract thieves too much.
