Title says it in a nutshell. Old School guy, my hands have held and used many a knife, including an original Morseth, purchased from Mr. Morseth himself, but I have never MADE a knife. So, with no power tools, no experience, and very little knowledge, I figure now is as good a time to make one as any. I have a piece of 1095 steel, and a piece of red micarta, My intention is to make a knife patterned along the lines of the Ontario RAT-7. It will be 3/16 x I-1/2 x 12 when finished. Also I figure to send it out for heat treating. And that, actually, is about all I have figured out at this point!

Taped up the pattern. As far as the profile goes, there is not a great amount of stock to be removed, this size piece of steel/profile was chose just because of that. Like I said, I have no tools at this point. I'll also end up with a tidy little 6" piece of stock to mess with next.

Top shelf service from Jantz. Ordered on Tuesday, was here Friday. The way it was packed I thought I wuz gonna finds eggs in the carton!

Also as said, I have zero experience, I'm just winging it here. I do want to end up with a genuinely tough, shard, usable blade when complete, not just a hunk of metal I did some grinding on. I am not thin-skinned and am highly interested in ya'lls thoughts, advice, and opinions on this.

If you don't have any tools then it sounds like you should do this with hand tools. You can make that knife with a hacksaw, files, and sandpaper. If you make a file jig you will be able to make a nice clean grind line. Here's a link to a jig made by a fellow forum member: http://youtu.be/r9iNDRwwBQQ

I'm sure the count will be by soon to offer some advice.
