I want to build a propane forge but I need some help here.
I pretty much need a good general use forge that can be used for welding layers of flat bar stock together for pattern steel forging blades and so on. It has to be pretty deep for long blades and have a large front opening.
Another issue is the parts have to be available in Canada.
Im not too great at google searches I guess because I cant seem to find suitable instructions and suppliers for parts. Im not even sure what type of forge I need.

My next question is about a dvd that was recommended to me here quite some time ago... its about how to forge swords. I hear its quite a popular dvd but I for the life of me can track it down. Does anybody know what dvd this is ?

Next: If you have a piece of steel/metal that you cant identify... is there some way of determining what it is and how to work with it besides trial and error ?

I think I have more questions but I just got off work and im about to pass out so ill leave it at that.

Thanks !

You should also check out Zoeller Forge for plans, supplies, and ideas on building forges of all different types/shapes/sizes. I have heard of people using everything from hot water heater tanks, freon tanks, old propane and oxygen tanks, to paint cans, or firebricks. You are really only limited by your imagination. It all depends on how big you want to go, how much you're willing to spend, and what you have access to for the main body.

Also if you're looking to buy rather than build, I like my Chili Forge. It's guaranteed to get to forge welding temps and has a pretty wide mouth. Definitely costs more, and you can fairly easily make your own of course.
