Glad to be back on BF. I'll be in California for the next 3 months, maybe longer. I know they have some stricter knife laws there.

I believe 3" is the limit in some counties and autos/assisted knives are typically either illegal or have a 2" limit. That being said, what are some manual 3" knives you could recommend?

I expect the knife to get thrashed on pretty hard so it needs to be a workhorse. My budget no more than $75 that way I wouldn't be too upset about replacing it if need be.
Thanks everyone!

Hmmm CTX XHP Mini Recon? I believe those are three inches

Edit: I take it back, they're more expensive than I remember. Maybe a Delica?

Delica is 2.875"
whats Cali legal? 2" ?
Pretty sure Cali doesn't have a length restriction, it just needs to be fully concealed if it's a folder and fully visible if it's a fixed blade. Certain counties like LA will be a lot more strict though.

Nothing beats looking up the knife laws for yourself, there is a subforum right here. Length doesn't matter for anything but autos, and Cali has an overall mantra of folders concealed, fixed fully visible. That said, individual cities have their own ordinances and individual officers have their own interpretations that don't always match the law. When I go into LA, I don't even show a clip, I keep everything completely in a pocket. I was in San Francisco one time talking to a guy who got his assisted opener confiscated and a court date because the officer decided it was a "switchblade." I use a CS Tuff Lite as a small folding beater with no problems, and for $30 bucks I can replace it painlessly if it ever goes down.

Well I did attempt to look up the knife laws online and from what I read, it all seemed very vague on what was legal. I apologize, maybe I just misunderstood what I had read. But thank you for the insight and I will take a look at the Tuff Lite.

Thanks everyone!

I'm in Los Angeles County. Carry a Kershaw Link as my EDC or my Protech TR-5 Spring assist. Totally legal. Dave at Protech made this specifically for Cali carry.
Los Angeles city might be different but I rarely venture there.

We have no set state blade length limit for fixed blades, manual folders, or assisted openers.
Auto's and bali's must be 2" in blade length or less.

However southern California sucks and many places there have some very strict knife laws.
Here in the valley in NorCal the laws are pretty minimal.

What part of CA will you be visiting? I live in So Cal, Orange county and routinely carry a 3-4 in folder. Never had any problems. The laws are vague. The only time I would be worried is if you were in a large liberal city like LA or SF.

Buy 2 Ontario rat 2's and you will be set

I'll be in Camp Pendleton for about a month and then I'll be at Twentynine Palms for 2 months. Following that, I could be stationed there for a long while but hopefully not!
