Im Back with my Buddies!

Hey Bruce, glad your back. I gotta take a few breaks and got on here more, I've been slipping. I know for us pretty much anything goes as far as sale-able knives but, the high end bowies do seem to move the best. Your work is fantastic and I can't see you not making a living with knives. Just have to do those long term projects on the side. :D
All our best to you Bruce!

Hey Bruce,
Making knives gotta be more fun than prison work :D
I've been fulltime so long, I don't think I could get a real job, nor do I want one :p Good Luck !

Don Hanson lll

Nice to see that orange glow about you, Bruce. :D :p

I'm partial to your cut-n-shoots....would like to see more of those. Or quillion daggers.....or mediteranean bowies....or recurve fighters.....or...

dang, I think anything you made would sell well.

Im working at the pen this week and then I think its 3 months off to make knives, daggers folders bowies cut n shoots or what ever my little heart desires. I still need to finish the axe/gun but after that whoo-hoo! If I can make a living I may not go back if they call.

Bruce I know about the time management thing if I could manage it I wouldn't be 8 months behind..
maybe it's not the same problem , back a$$wards for some :)

just have fun and don't turn it into work..I think you know the drill
the upper (at least what I call my upper) end hunters are selling the best
for me
my bowies slowed down once Pete moved off.

the folders are slow but I'm not pushing them, in a few days I'm I'll have the ground work done on semi custom folders, we'll see if that will work..
I wonder if I can sell some kits.. I think I'm bordering hi-jacking here. Bruce if you dare,, high end Auto's are not a problem moving.

DanG - I had the very same thought last night.

High-end Autos. Would love to see what you could come up with, Bruce.

I had 4 months at the pen that was so slow I had about 6 hours a day with nothing but time on my hands. I drew some knives and guns on paper. I have one cut and shoot with an auto blade. The springs and all the mechanisms are visible with the scales cut out to expose them. Too bad its illegal in my state to posses an automatic knife.

So what constitutes a high end auto? Maybe if i did those they would sell better. Can I just raise my price from $475 to $875, add some pearl and call it a high end auto?

Dang you got to get rid of that Hotie I can't think

let me see.
other things other than name adding to the price you'd add gold and some marked
up goodies, fit is a must among the normal stuff, gold screws stuff like that ..
Jews add a lot in a good markup. if anyone doesn't think so
buy a nice ring at about $2000.00 and go next door to the next shop and try selling it the same day for cash..
see the price drop. that would be a few things to bump it up..

Bruce as a maker you can make them can't you?
a gun dealer can have ak7's and ozzys <spelling
if that the case you can sell in legal states I would think?

police and military can carry them I believe. but not sure if all states are the same though?

Just two examples....

Wow those are fantastic! I think Ron Nott must be about the best engraver Ive seen.

I dont know for sure if a "Licensed Knifemaker" can make a switch blade in Washington State. How would I find out?My business license says "Bruce D Bump Damascus Knives" so I must be one right?

not sure but I'll try looking into it.. asap
someone posted the laws of the land here sometime ago for reg carry i didn't
think to look and see if there was a link or something to fallow up further.
I have an MRI tomorow  I thought I was done for a while :grumpy:

IIRC, Ohio law not only outlaws switch blades for carry, it makes mention of manufacturing them :grumpy: I know of some folks who do though and haven't got in trouble yet  I think there's something federal about interstate trade as well :grumpy:

Well its official, Im layed off at the pen. Im a FT knifemaker again! I went to the Oregon show this last weekend and had a great time and sold what I had except the Plain Jane pistol/folder. I even took an order for a damascus fighter. Its great to be forging again. Theres nothing like the smell of reduced atmosphere propane and fried arm hair in the mornings. :D

Bruce,

You da man. You'll be able to save a lot of travel money shortly because very soon you will not be able to make knives for counter sale. The bookings will keep you tied up. I just hope the wife doesn't get tired of you being under foot all day and all evening ;).

Ain't it the truth. Welcome back to full time fun. Can't wait to see what you come up with knife and combo wise.
