Yah I know it's been a while since I have been here. School took back over my time, along with track, my car, and my motorcycle; however, I just started up again and I have fixed the design flaw on my press. Everything is working smoothly again. I am really exited to get back to work on knifemaking. I just wanted to say hi to all the friends I have here on bladeforums.

i watched you and your press progress glad your back.
Did you finish it? I am old and forget stuff?!?:grumpy:

Yep, I finally got it working right. I had some problems with it shifting when I pressed, so I had to rebuild the guide assembly. But now it is very tight with no shifting.

Here it is:

Hi, Jimmy! Welcome back. :) You look like you bulked up some muscle.

Glad to see you have the press issues corrected. Looks beefy now! I'm assuming you had your glasses off in that one foto for photo effect??? ;)

Hey fitzo Long time no see! Of coarse it's for photo effect... I am sending those in for a scolarship. The press is very beffy now. That new guide set up was more heavy than the cylinder. Thats where the added muscle came from...

Soemthing llike an art scholarship for metalsmithing?

Best of luck!!!

Not exaclty. I've been accepted to Texas A&M, but I can't afford it; so I'll probaly just go to LSU. However, I may be able to go if I get some scolarships. I was accepted into the engineering department.

I remember that box of yours :) I try to get all my forging done in the winter and finish knives in the AC when it gets too hot out.

Good luck with school.

I can't conform my schedual like that unfortunatly... :grumpy: I got too much stuff to do and no time to do it. That's why man invented the gallon jug of water. I go through one in about 2-3 hours.

I stop when I start getting light headed. But that dosn't happen that much anymore. I just stay really hydrated.

well with the humidity there its no suprised you get dehydrated. trust me i know what your going thru with the weather there.

I would rather it be hot though than cold. Sometimes the cold just ticks me off. I don't see how some of yall deal with snow....

Welcome back, the press looks good

I'll throw in my 2 cents on the school thing. Avoid student loans if at all possible. If you can get the scholarships or whatever you need to make it work then go for it, but don't put yourself in the hole if there's somewhere else you like that is within your budget. I just paid my tuition for the last time and will graduate from OSU in June. Not having any loans to pay off is a huge weight off my shoulders. I have friends that are 25 thousand or more in debt and still don't have a place to live or a decent car to drive. It can really weigh on you.

Also, I lived at home during school. It saved money, and I got to work in my shop, or ride my horses anytime I wanted. I don't know if you live within a reasonable distance from either school to drive back and forth, but in a tough program like engineering you'll be alot happier if you can go hammer some steel to blow off steam. And it will be a lot more productive stress releiver than getting hammered at some party or bar.
Good luck with it all. I know how hard its getting to get into a decent school. Especially for engineering.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I am not in daily traveling distance from either school unfortunatly. Both schools are good for engineering; however, Texas A&M is in the top 100 in the nation. I would go way under in debt though with all of the out of state cost, probaly 2-3 times as much as your friend :(. I'll be able to get back home on the weekends though. I am undecided at the moment.
