I never imagined there could be so many fertilizer puns!! haha

In all seriousness though, glad you're doing better!! Take care!

You're weird.

:p

LOL Mikey,
I guess when you live in Tex-ass, it's kinda tough to just take a drive down HWY 101 and visit Solvang for a day, but if you ever get a chance, trust me, the funnel cake is KILLER!!!

I'm sure the knives were outta sight as well:thumbup:

Wow Ken, sorry to hear about your fertilizer accident, glad to hear you are recovering!

Great that you still made it to the show.

Hopefully you'll be fully recovered by Blade, sounds like it'll be a busy show.

Thanks guys !, I'm doing really good . I was using a liquid concentrate of ammonium sulfate 21-0-0 to use as an anodizing solution for my titanium and dumped almost 1/2 gal of it on myself . I quickly jumped into the shower and scrubbed but I had such a large skin contact area that it poisoned me pretty quickly. About six hours later I thought my guts were gonna explode so I went to the emergency room and spent the next 7 days with no food or water other than IV liquids. They took blood samples every few hours, did ultrasounds, and a bunch of other tests and my pancreas is healing well. I am now able to eat a little bit of solid food and all is good. I even lost a few pounds. So now I feel pretty good but have track marks all over my arms like a junky.Oh well!! Rubber gloves ,rubber apron and alot more caution in the future for sure.I read the MSDS sheet and it read like this stuff was pretty safe and only caused minor skin rashes and such . Guess they didn't factor in taking a bath in the stuff.

Glad to hear you're doing better big guy.
Please do wear the PPE next time.....You do
have a Melee that needs to make it's way into
Kershaws lineup. ;)

Holy crap! I think you get the "above and beyond" award for flying to the show and being there after being in the hospital all week. Take care of yourself! And thanks for making such a huge effort to see folks at the show.

Glad to hear you are okay. I work with ammonium sulfate quite often in the lab, although I'm always wearing gloves and a lab coat, and in much smaller quantities. You are correct that that the MSDS labels ammonium sulfate as a very low level hazardous chemical. As a biochemist I am quite surprised to hear of your reaction. Nothing in my knowledge of chemistry or physiology suggests a reason to me why it would be toxic enough to cause more than a severe rash or chemical burn, or why your pancreas was affected in particular. Did your doctors give you any more information?

One thing that MSDS lists seem to lack is information on how readily the chemical is absorbed through the skin. For mutagens, I rely on the knowledge of my colleagues and not the MSDS for that kind of important information. Guess you learned that lesson too.
